Where's the green?!When it comes to things that I can't change, I try not to complain. I like living in Fayette County. The climate is fair (usually), the people are nice (mostly), the area is safe from serious crime (generally), and the schools are good (or so I'm told). But the one thing that bothers me about living here is the severe lack of accessible green space, parks, and nature. I know that we have ballfields and sports greens, but if you don't play sports, it doesn't do you much good. Lake Horton is rather remote compared to other facilities. It's a solid ten miles to Lake Horton from where I live, and there are no sidewalks between here and there.Peachtree City does have cart paths, but on a number of occasions I've nearly become cart path roadkill, so they're not terribly walker/hiker friendly. I don't understand why the county has opted not to fund general public recreation. A system of sidewalks, parks, trails, and common greens would encourage healthy, enjoyable exercise. It would even boost property values and create a sought-after sense of community. All of the best communities around the world have sustainable, maintained park systems. Why don't we? tennfan1's blog | login to post comments |
