Restaurants in Fayette County

Fyt35's picture

Well, it looks like Johnny Carinos closed its doors in Fayetteville; I don’t know when this happened since I don’t frequent The Pavilion that much.

Are we down to just Carraba’s for Italian in Fayette County?

How about some barbeque?

There is some sort of seafood restaurant/sports bar opening in the old location of Los Toribios in Fayetteville (Los Terribles) as we called it, I’m eager to check it out.

Does anyone know if Big Daddy’s closed up? I heard a rumor last week about this.

I used to enjoy breakfast at J Christopher’s until I noticed this past weekend a fellow that helps out in the kitchen and tables was soaked in sweat and serving food as the sweat drops dripped from his face. My wife would not touch her food and we left. He is a pleasant guy but why doesn’t anyone tell him not to wear gray shirts that show all the wet spots under his arms, chest and back? And for crying out loud, don’t carry food orders around if you are dripping wet!!!!

By the way, what is The Red Room next to J Christopher’s?

I know...I hate it Carino's closed down. I loved the food and the service -- they always had better than average servers there. Adam and Alfreda were especially kind and helpful.

And the Italian Oven in PTC is good as well. Was just there this week and the food was good as always and reasonably priced.

Anthony's: never been there. Thanks for the recommendation, Hutch. I'll check it out.

Don't forget to mention them. Foods always good.
Go to Pascal's for lunch if you need a pasta fix. Great Deal.

They had the specials on the board today when I was at the Barber Shop, below Big Daddy's. Hi to Christy, she's the BEST.

Oh yeah, the Red Room, it's a bar basically with better than expected food. Good tunes at night. What they do varies. I've seen live music there (Shurman) and seen DJ's. All in all, can be fun, can be a dud, like most nightspots.

near the Sams Auditorium for good Italian fare at a fair price. Attentive staff and a nice setting. It's worth driving from PTC since Macaroni Grill closed.

Did Baci open up in The Avenues?

Submitted by NinaLynn on Wed, 11/28/2007 - 7:47am.

So glad you mentioned Baci. It is a great place, not over-bearing & loud. Nice quiet, intimate place. The food is delicious, very attentive staff and the owner is very genuine.I'm kind of sorry to bring them up as it will start getting too busy! Sorry Micah! Being married to an Italian for many years, and being from up north, I've got to say the food is done right, unlike some chain restaurants.Check it out! Thanks again Tom Cat....meow ~

hoping that the new place opening next to the Maximum Output gym on 54 will live up to its name, Margarelli's......they've got the name right, hopefully the food will match. Never been to Baci's but been needing to try for awhile. Pies on is VERY GOOD all around by the way. As for the original blog that mentioned barbeque....don't we already have several bbq and southern/country cooking places....seems like there are enough to feed an army. Something new and good would be a welcome change for sure. Also, Anthony's, Johnnies and Partner's are decent enough for pizza.....but more is always better in this category as far as I'm concerned

I dined at Baci’s before it closed; I will have to try it out again. The food was always good and at reasonable prices. The pizza at Pies On is second to none, absolutely delicious! I’m jealous that Git and Cy are making the trek to Nicks tomorrow, I wish I was not on the north side of town at lunch time; I would have joined ya’ll.
Remember, extra sauce on the gyro and potatoes!

P.S. Is Margarelli's a chain?

Fyt35,

You mentioned you love Pies On Pizza. Here's an even better option: Oz Pizza in Fairburn. It's by far the best pizza I've ever had in Georgia, and this is coming from someone who was born and raised in the Northeast.

Submitted by NinaLynn on Sun, 12/02/2007 - 5:14pm.

Oh please,if you want pizza that's dipped in oil, very heavy taste and gives you heartburn, fine. Otherwise, check out Partner's Pizza. Much, much better. Try it and you'll see. Don't forget, for authentic Italian food, try Baci's. It's near the old Fayette High,(LEC) and kind of behind Arby's. Let me know what you think.

that must stand for "hol' the taste Jen" As someone who grew up in an Italian American home in a heavily Italian American Northeast town.....I think I know a little somethin' about pizza. Pies on may not have the greatest pizza in the world... granted, but it sure beats "white bread southern style pizza at Partners. I got nothin' against Partners....it's fine for what it is .....a place to go where the kids can play some games and fill up....but Pies On is the real deal for all their food....pizza included.....if you can get past the Providence/Boston influence in their style of Pie ;>}

Still need to check out Baci by the way

It's me...ok, I'm also from the north. Married to an Italian,35+ yrs. Contact me and we'll have you over for lasagna one night after the New Year..you bring the wine. You can let me know if it's what you remember from home! Can you mention where home is? Yes, and do give Baci a try.I'm not going to argue with you re: Za. And Boston for pizza?? Nada, beans maybe but not pie! HAHA Shocked)

During my first semester here at Tech, I've found some really good restaurants in midtown that one might miss:

Jimmy John's Subs
Juniors Grill (on tech campus)
Tin Drum
5th Street Ribs and Blues
Ray's Pizza
(all three in Tech Square)

There are others, I just can't remember them right now.

fingers aren't awake yet.

Cy, a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do. I am blessed with enough umption in my gumption to take care of many things on my own.

I have a friend who celebrates her anniversay three days after mine, we are the same age, have known each other since junior high! Got a note from her that she had fallen and broke ankle and hurt back, she then said, "thank goodness I didn't break a hip". Gosh, are we that old!!!! I truly do value my ability to get things done.

And speaking of getting things done, I can't do car maintenance. I need some suggestions on a good, honest auto mechanic. The other day took one car in for simple oil change, was not pleased with the customer service. After considering the several times, over the years, that this outfit has ripped me off, I have decided to vote with my feet and never darken their doorway again. Need someone who is concerned with doing right, rather than getting rich off of customers.

Goodmorning Dear Lady!

If you are willing to drive to Griffin, I highly recommend Maxi Lube. The owner Mike Shell is an honest family man and most of his key people have been with him for 10 - 18 years. While you wait they'll give you a coupon for a free Chik-Fil-A down the street and if you speak to Shirley at the front, she'll probably arrange a ride while you wait. It might be worth the trip and I'll guarantee you that you won't get burnt.

wouldn't be that bad. I'm just looking for an honest soul. I just hate it when a woman walks into a repair shop and you can see their eyes light up as they chuckle and rub their hands together.

Here's just one example, hope I do have all my info correct. Lost a gas cap, I replaced gas cap, engine light was on, I didn't know what to do. My trusted mechanic charged to to recalibrate for engine light to go off. Silly me didn't know it would have recalibrated itself . . . another hard lesson learned.

Kinda like that old line - do you know how to tell when a (fill in the blank) in this case, mechanic is lying . . . if their lips are moving.

Thanks Git, I'll check it out. Now you realize this means I need to leave early from time to time in order to get to Griffin!!! LOL!

I can so relate to your gas cap experience! Not long after my husband passed away I made the mistake of buying a lawnmower.
(I couldn't start the one we had, but my husband could.) Like you said, when they saw me coming they started rubbing their hands together. To make a long story short, if I had it to do over again I would have bought it somewhere else.

I've learned to have "gumption" too. Smiling

Like I always say, we gotta do what we gotta do . . .

I often wonder, so very many kinds of services, why someone can't come up with the idea of being honest, straight forward, offer free, fair or discounted rates, with a real heart for helping people doesn't start a business to cater to widows, single women, etc. Has no one ever thought of the fact they may not make lots of money per job, but simply by quantity of work. Has no one figured out if they were truly honest and forthright that word of mouth would keep them busy all the time? Apparently I don't have a head for business, because this seems so simple to me. . .

Ah well, let me get back to work here so I can afford some service somewhere where people are looking for me to walk in the door! LOL!

I noticed that Johnny Carino’s shut down when Mrs. Cy. and I went for lunch last week. They had a great soup and salad deal. I guess it's a situation of an over-supply of restaurants. When we first moved here some 20 years ago there was the Dixie House, Mealers, McDonalds, Del-Taco, Dakota Steak House, Lone Star (the one with the chicken man). I think there were a few others but we frequented those mentioned.

Chicken Man

“The Chicken Man” was a gentleman named Mike Culver who lived locally and worked (maybe still does) with Delta. He performed his routine at The Lonestar (now Wings and Things). If I recall correctly, he was in a department known as In Flight Maintenance, a high pressure assignment. Culver acquired a little national exposure for his routine which was a comedic combination of costumes, pantomime/lip sync and extraordinarily funny facial expressions, almost all of which were performed on top of the bar. In fact, owner Fred Poteet, a big graybearded western attired man, would crawl up on the bar to introduce Culver, engaging the crowd in a sing along, including Garth Brooks’ “Low Places”. And yes, Cal, there were folks "quaffing beers" (or so I am told). This was truly a Fayette classic. I won’t bore you anymore with this one.
