Haddix on Redevelopment

I see the phrase 'Redevelopment' is becoming of concern, and justly so.

I have not used it because if someone is renovating existing property, that is not redevelopment, that is simply upgrading or replacing existing structures. We have Code and other mechanisms already in place to govern such. The use and neighborhood nature has already been established.

If some need strengthened or revised, that is another issue, entirely.

When I see comments on pro-active redevelopment plans coming from a candidate who has supported the current Councils development policies, I am concerned as well.

Property developed per current Zoning density and such should not have the zoning changed to enable greater density. The Plan calls for the more dense usage to be in the center of PTC and then growing less dense to the city limits. Leave it that way.

When I see a candidate talking about creating redevelopment plans and altering the Plan to reflect the new, while also talking about reducing our carbon footprint, lowering fossil fuel usage and pesticide use, I fear a move to remake PTC into a Green/Environmental Movement model and life style.

Yet more reasons to get a moratorium in place, enact strict impact studies and other ordinances and give them them the force of law to demand the PTC Vision and Plan, historical, not new, be preserved and defended. Also to end the arbitrary decision making of individuals on Council, commissions and such that change with every change of membership.

You've got some fight in you. We need someone willing to stand up for our city's planning values.

Councilman Harman had to conduct a poll to see whether the city's ordinances were worth protecting.

It looks like Haddix and King for me.
