What does "Support the troops" mean today?

AF A-10's picture

Because as I listen to the conservative outlets, the meaning tends to mutate. Rush Limbaugh has successfully given Bill OReilly cover for the previous "Sylvia's" comments. First, the context: I have listened to the actual radio show and Rush can't outspin me:

Talking with a caller on the subject of anti-war veterans and the Iraq debate, Rush's caller says the left always finds phony soldiers to argue about leaving Iraq, because "real soldiers want to be in Iraq." Rush then said, clearly, real soldiers "joined the military because of Iraq."

He, Rush, said days later, that decorated purple heart veteran Brian McGough had "lies strapped to his body, and he walks them into as many people as he can find."

INCREDIBLY, Rush is adamantly claiming this is not a reference to suicide bombers. Sigh.....

Here are a few questions for my conservative or neoconservative Rush supporters:

1: Do we only support soldiers who happen to share our opinion?

2: Has Rush or any of you no idea that there are actually US soldiers who are not excited about 15 month deployments to Iraq? Do you not know that there are brave military veterans that feel we need to end our combat role in Iraq? Is this ignoring or attacking this point of view a way of somehow trying to change the nature of the argument (you can't be a patriot and question political decisions at the same time)? I am certain that veterans do not only fight for the rights of civilians to have and voice opinions. They actually fight for their own voices to be heard as well.

The bravery exibited by a man lacking any service whatsoever, from the comfort of his studio,is less than admirable, in my humble opinion. Bill OReilly will have political foes on his program. He at least has a backbone. Will Rush give this citizen, Brian McGough, air time to address the "suicide bomber" inuendos, or will he continue to exhibit cowardice from the safety of Clear Channel provided airwaves?

Cheers

Hack

I view Rush and his show as entertainment radio. I'm watching him wiggle over this. I only listen to Rush because I'm still PO'd at WGST for taking the Kimmer off. We'll see how this bird lands or crashes.

Big liar also. He owned one, at least, of everything sold in Metro Atlanta, according to him. If he owned 25 acres he couldn't store all he said he had from sponsors.
But, he got rich at it.

The latest I hear from Earl Smalls Harley, is that the Kimmer is doing just fine. He has his family home in the Boston area and just bought a house in Daytona Beach. I really miss his show. Now we have "I spent all my money and I don't why" show on WGST. That simply is not entertainment for me.

He can not any longer use the word "entertainer" to justify his lack of credentials for "values" as described by him.
He is a twice divorced, body altering drug addict, an obvious smoke and mirrors talker, and should marry Anne Coulter, if she were that dumb.
There are over one-million people in the military, making very little money. Maybe half are Guards and Reserves who didn't join (as he said) because of Iraq. He is stupid if he believes that. That is a cover-up for his ten years of blowing hard in the other direction!
Soldiers know when on the battle-field to not argue with authority, you will be shot. (Rush, having never been one he wouldn't know). However no one can assume that all million of them feel the same way about this idiotic war. Some Officers might, due to promotion opportunities.
How the average citizen feels (including soldiers) is no different in the USA than in Iraq. They don't follow the leader over a cliff like sheep for the benefit of people like Limbaugh. Only when they are about to be shot or tortured.

Having just read the posting on which gun puts better holes in stuff, I feel compelled to explicitly state that nothing typed herin is to be construed as, or is intended as such, to be a personal attack on the ethics, honor, or integrity of any conservative; be they republican or independent, and escpecially if they have an extensive gun collection and proficiency in loading, aiming, and firing ball ammunition. I will further state that conservatives are my friends, some are family, and they would be quite saddenned and heartbroken if my physical person was at any time to interrupt the flight path of said ball ammunition; especially that of the larger calibre. this posting is pure satire and youthful curiosity, okay fellas? We coo rite? All good? Buddies? okay???? he he. ummm.

Don't worry Hack. We are good buds here. BTW, my largest gun uses urban renewal ammunition.

Ah, crew accommodations at a hotel, what a dream life. (LOL)

If I'm the one at the business end, I prefer bird shot. But my gun dealing ex Marine neighbor has caused me to forever have a love affair with the triangle-faced desert eagle. A gun made for Tim Allen types who would put a v-8 on a leaf blower. I'd have to use the 22 adapter so I could afford target practice.

Cheers,
