West Mobile Vet Visit in PTC

kjam's picture

This past Tuesday, I was a first time user of West Mobile Vet services in PTC. Needless to say, it will be my last. I recently adopted a stray cat who is already a joy in our lives. I was given the info on their web site, seemed to have decent prices, and the man was pleasant on the phone when I called to schedule the appointment. When I arrived in the parking lot of the Kroger (Hwy 54 @ P'tree Pkwy), I was shocked to see so many people there with their pets. I thought this was a good sign, people must trust them with their pets. I completed the sign in sheet & turned my cat over to the vet. He asked very few questions and said "see you at 6pm". I arrived back to the parking lot around 5:15 (hoping he would be ready to go home after surgery), and the female assistant was rude from the minute I walked up to the mobile unit. She rudely said I had to come back at 6pm. I asked how my cat was doing, she replied "I don't know, we have 28 other cats in here and I'm busy doing paperwork". When I was finally called back to the door, she handed me my cat in the carrier, along with his paperwork. I attemped to ask a few questions on how to care for him the next few days after his surgery, scratches on his face, etc & was told "just read the instructions". I paid my bill in cash (that's all they take) and left feeling horrible that I had left my cat in their care for several hours. I hope with all of the other people I saw in the parking lot that day with their "loved one's" they did not have the bad experience I did. I will take my cat to my regular vet, pay the extra money it takes, and know he will be looked after properly. You know the old saying "you get what you pay for", well, yes you do!
Just curious if anyone else had or has had any problems with West Mobile Vet?

P.S. My cat got over being upset with me after a few hours of being home!

We were taking two 3 year old dogs..."inherited" from my father-in-law who did not want them fixed! We went to our regular vet for shots, but because the neutering would be close to 200 per dog at the vet, we opted to go the less expensive route as we're on a budget (trying to do right by these dogs who DESPERATELY needed fixing while also balancing the finances of our family).

We were probably there the same day...perhaps I even spoke with you? I agree that it was very much a "Cattle car" experience and was hurried and crowded, but I believe this is simply due to the overwhelming amount of pets they deal with. There was only the vet and the assistant.

When I picked up the dogs, they were groggy but fine. When I called concerned about one dog's listlessness (he just didn't take well to the pain medication), my call was returned and the assistant was very helpful. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I still think this unit is providing a valuable service for people on a budget for their own pets or for those just providing a service for local strays.

I think this mobile unit just needs to add a couple of extra helpers to deal with the crowds!

I think; therefore I have high blood pressure.

I am a volunteer with the Humane Society, answering calls on spay/neuter assistance. There is a need for low-cost spay/neuter clinics in Fayette County. While I do agree that there are many great vets in this area, many of our citizens cannot afford the large costs that these vets charge. Most of the vets require up-front bloodwork and a night's lodging which can add almost $100 to the bill. West Mobile Vet provides a service to those people who are trying to do the right thing by their beloved companions but who are also constrained by their financial status. It is pure ignorance to believe that everyone in this county is affluent as you are and is just looking to get a cheap fix. As for kjam's bad experience, maybe that woman was having a bad day. Who knows? But you are doing the entire community a disservice to condemn WMV and urge others not to use their services. I wish there were more such services available.

Thank you for your input. I think some of us have already decided kjam just wanted to save 30 bucks. I'm not sure why she couldn't wait 10 days for her regular vet.
The only part of your post I take exception w/ is : As for kjam's bad experience, maybe that woman was having a bad day.

kjam was told when to show up (6) & showed up 45 min early. Probably when it suited her schedule. The lady had 28 other animals to care for in a RV & to start having everyone just show up when it suits their schedule...sounds like kaos.

Spay & fix your animals and teach your children well. Wrap that rascal.

What is your point? How much were you thinking you were saving?

Seems like they are providing a necessary service to those who can't afford more I am ass-u-me that you like to think you can). We have a coyete now in our neighborhood probably feasting on unwanted kittens. The new urban reality...they show up where the food is / or plentiful prey.

I would have taken my pet to my regular vet, however he could not do the services for 10+ days. Yes, I did save probally 30$ or more, I just wanted to let our community know that this service could be the "bad apple of the bunch". I am not saying these types of services being offered are unwanted, think it's a great idea. But then again, if pet owners took care of their pets, the over population of dogs & cat's would be better controlled. If you have a coyete problem, call a trapper. Coyete will go after more than just animals.

So how is your creature? You came on here & trashed a business that was providing a service you choose. So you could save time & $30 (not sure why you couldn't wait 10 days).

A far as defaming the coyote, they have only killed one known child (in Calif in recent time). They, like the vilified snake, only hunt what they can consume and they generally are EVEN more afraid of you than you of them.

You come on here and trash cops, laws, and anything resembling common sense. This person has a right to vent. That is what blogging is for.

Is this buisness owner your long lost retarded cousin?

Just get rid of the nasty cats and excess dogs. Feed and train kids!

Well, I have all of the above, dogs, cat's & kids.
Never thought of getting rid of any of them. Sometimes the pet's were easier to train than the kids. Atleast the pet's don't argue with me!

I have never understood how a human can let a dog lick their face, call it kissing, thank the dog, knowing what else the dog licks often, even on other dogs! Smells em too. He stinks often, has bad breath from eating who knows what, barks, shrieks, and whines, when he feels like it----all in the house. Then he is walked, maybe, and poops in your grass or the neighbors grass, or on the sidewalk or in the grass elsewhere! He needs a big fenced pen outside with fresh water and food, and taught not to constantly bark and be the dog from hell the neighbors hate. Not to mention the long brown streaks on your carpet where he scratches his rear end by sliding.
Cats are different. Most have plenty of hair to either throw up or lose into the house, all nasty. six to eight cleanups (well wipe ups) are necessary per week usually...not the cats fault, of course.
They are allowed to sleep across our noses.
However come dusk, we can sneak them out the door for their nightly stroll into the neighbors yard, flowers, or onto their car hoods to have nature's call, or to scratch it! All of which is denied the next day!
Cats belong in the jungle or near an alligator or crocodile pond!

Or Sage or Bokers or Dollar or whatever the name of the day may be: If I were your dog or cat I would howl, bark, scream and yelp day and night hoping to be rescued. Thank God you do not have an animal-that would certainly be the worst thing imaginable for any living creature. You are without a doubt the most negative excuse for a human being I have ever been aware of. I only hope that this attitude of yours in an onset of some form of dementia brought on by old age. I would hate to think that little children, teens, or young adults had to live in a home filled with such negativity and bleak outlook on life. If you did/do have children and they turned out with even a semblance of normality it must be due to their mother or divine intervention--on second thought there must have been divine intervention, because no one living breathing human being could have projected enough love and good homelife to offset the bile you spew. I would suggest you settle on one name--Bonkers seems to fit you the best.

Maybe any animals you ever had could tell how you feel about them. I've got two Labs and you won't find any of my neighbors that have a bad thing to say about them, they don't constantly bark or do any of the things you say. I explained you to my dogs and they said they would much rather lick their butts then lick YOUR face. You have nothing good to say about women or animals, you must be about the loneliest person alive.

I grew up on a farm before I went into the military. I always had a dog who lived outside and roamed the hills with me.
We had cats also who kept the rats out of our corn cribs. They lived in the barn.
I venture to say that I know more about taking care of animals than you ever will. That includes sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, and horses!
None lived in my house.

There's more to taking care of animals then just slinging food at them. I bet Vick fed his dogs, but, I don't think he took care of them. To use your own words, I venture to say the only thing you ever loved in your life was yourself, I suppose.

I had never heard of this fly-by-night idiot vet. Thank you for being brave enough to tell your story and warn other people.

We have many good vets in this area, there is no need for this.

Thank you. It's not about being brave. And yes, lot's of great vets in the area. I guess the people that don't have pet's just do not understand. Again, seeing so many people in the parking lot, I'm sure I was not the only person with some type of complaint.
