Books (after the war is over)

Already some journalists have written a few books about the Afghanistan and Iraq war, but I forsee the release of possible scores of them once the war is either over or has failed to accomplish much of anything. I'm sure there is great hope that we can organize, at least Iraq, so that a workable government can exist alone in the near future, but it isn't very promising. I think we are there to stay, from a distance maybe, but with some control when necessary.
Many military people of stature, who will want to defend their participation, will of course write about the Washington mistakes made and why they didn't resign at the time.
Civilians, who have been in power during the war, will publish the most books (Brimer, Rumsfeld, Powell, again, and numerous others.
Of course we have wanted a military presence in the middle-east for many years and this war gave us the opportunity to do so. I think however that due to poor leadership we failed in handling the whole thing miserably. I don't know of another nation who could send their young armies into such a war and have them perform, as ordered, when it has accomplished so little in five years! They are magnificent.
I wonder though about the next time some generals and secretaries order such a war?

I’ve been reading a very interesting book regarding the war; a diary of sorts. From what I have gathered, the Iraqis aren’t really interested in our help (or help from anyone else) in setting up a government. It appears as though they are only interested in the money that comes with it. Each sheik wants to run his tribe/province his way, with his rules and that is that. One would think that some sort of “social contract” would occur naturally. However, that is not happening. Also, I’ve gathered, from the same book, that the Italian army doesn’t really like to fight.

One would think our leaders would also know those things, wouldn't you?
Even I, the village clown, have known that for s long time.
But you see in Texas, the only history taught is about the Alamo!
A standard joke after one Italian battle: the sergeant ordered a platoon of men to wipe out a machine gun nest up on the hill which appeared to be manned by one soldier of the enemy. They reluctantly approached the nest and suddenly ran back. When asked by the sergeant as to why, they said ' THERE'S TWO OF THEM!!
They did whop up on some Africans once who were armed with spears. Mussolini had tanks!
