City Council Pay Study - The way I see it

This is from Peachtree City
CODE OF ORDINANCES

Sec. 2.10. Compensation of mayor and councilmembers as fixed; expenses of office allowable.
(a) The mayor shall receive an annual salary and each councilmember shall receive such annual salary as shall be established by ordinance during the proceeding term for which such official shall have been appointed or elected. Said salaries shall be paid in twelve (12) equal monthly installments on or before the last day of each month.

The way I read the above is that even if the study shows the PTC council are underpaid none of the existing council can receive a pay increase until the term following the term in which the increase is approved. The key word is preceeding. That is provided any of the existing coucil are re-elected. Not to mention the increases have to be in the budget.

This is the best I could find:
http://www.dca.state.ga.us/dcawss/reports/static/2003/MU_Elect_03.pdf.

I know that the mayor & coumcil in Senoia voted themselves big undeserved raises a few years ago to $1000 / 500. The character of those that advocated this is suspect. In Newnan, the mayor & council used to git free utilites from Newnan Utilities but they changed to a "Cash Only" policy several years ago.

I think kudos should be given to the Coweta County Board of Ed. I believe they all serve gratis. How big is their budget? How many employees?

So, how much should we pay the President (after Bush)? I know Logdone won't git to make a 10k speech, but, really what happened to Public Service? How much do we "pay" all the various board members? I know that one "board" took home our money & a $1,000,000.

But there are some real good amateur tennis players here now!

Every state that I know of doesn't allow pay raises in the middle of a term for officials.
That has nothing to do with the NEXT term, where many run again and win, they hope.
Even if they don't, chances are a good old buddy-boy will reap the extra change! And somehow appreciate it.
Why am I having to say all this?
