Twenty-three members of All Saints Anglican Church were confirmed Sunday in Peachtree City by the Right Reverend Dr. David J. Bena of the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA). Bena currently serves as Bishop Suffragan for CANA in Fairfax, Va. Bena was assisted in the Peachtree City service by Canon David Anderson, Canon Missionary of CANA and executive director of the American Anglican Council (AAC). CANA is an orthodox missionary outreach of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. The following parishioners were confirmed: George Wallace Anderson, Susan Melanie Anderson, Jason Randall Barber, Lawson French Bell, Jr., Virginia Ann Phillips Bell, Elliot Ness Charobee, William Robert Coffee, Michael Hargett DaSilva, Hayden Alexis Deverill, Shane Matthew Deverill, Richard Peyton Jones, Leslie Phillip Kelley, Danielle Marie Lee, James Dominick Lee, Kent Douglas McVay, Sarah Elizabeth Simmons Moon, Janet Leigh Perrin, Kaala Rae Rawlinson , David Stewart Schafer, Carrie Elizabeth Stachura, John Brookes Stevenson, Jr., Kassandra Marie Wilson, and Katrenah Kimberly Wilson. Sunday’s ceremony involved a public reaffirmation by the candidates, or “confirmands,” of their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ after completing a preparatory course of study. They renewed their baptismal vows, the bishop placed his hands on them, and he prayed that the Holy Spirit will forever be with them. The confirmation rite dates from the 16th century when it was included in the Book of Common Prayer by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer. The ceremony took place at Huddleston Elementary School, where All Saints currently meets. The parish will move its operation to 303 Kelly Drive on July 12 according to current plans. All Saints is a newly formed congregation of 240 that is currently searching for a permanent priest and a plot of land on which to build a permanent church building. Canon David Anderson of the American Anglican Council recently praised All Saints’ rapid progress in this area. login to post comments |
