Bicycle Club in PTC

Saturday morning about 9am, I was driving northbound on Peachtree Parkway, just passing the Peachtree Crossings shopping center (where the bike store is). About 30 bicyclists were crossing the parkway at a marked crossing, but NONE of them were stopping for cars. They ALL expected the cars to stop for them. I refused to, and almost hit one of them as he started into the crosswalk as I also entered the crosswalk (more correctly, HE would've hit ME).

This is the kind of thing that makes the motorists mad, and makes us paint all bicyclists with the same brush. This was obviously some kind of bike club, and if THEY don't follow the rules of the road, who will?

That next redlight is just over the bend.

Is this person talking about being "delayed" or are they talking about self-centered knuckleheads who think they are above the law?

A couple of months ago in North Fulton county a biker ran a red light and was killed. If he had lived he would have been responsible for damages to the car that he hit.

It isn't at all about me being delayed. It is about yet another example of bicyclists not following the traffic laws. This time in a large group.

I read a heck of a lot more stories about bad drivers than cyclists. I was driving along Goza Rd the other day in Fayetteville and came upon a group of cyclists. They all moved to the right side of the road and I passed them with no issues. No fuss , no muss. You guys must get really annoyed when little kids ride their trikes in your subdivisions as well? They way people drive around here, you'd think that everyone was heading to the emergency room.

-reserved for something more clever to say

Sounds like they were leaving on a group ride. I can't think of the number of times I've let families across and the "Red Hat Ladies" when they were obviously in a group and yes, I had the right of way.

I see the point "most" of the time, but in this case, I would have just let them go myself.

These are the "high class" people we all know and hate.

It sounds to me that PTC police needs to do a little enforcement action. As a cyclist, this contempt for the law by other cyclists just frustrates me to no end. I don't do business with this place.

What does the store have to do w/ the club? Do they condone or encourage law breaking? OR do the cyclist just start off in the parking lot? Shop where you want but there is no need to drag the business into this topic. Unless you work for the other shop in town?

A side from my point of view is that a whole bunch of you have never riden a bike on a street. SHARE the Road... it won't hurt you and it won't really slow you down too much.

I have other reasons why I don't shop there. I hope you weren't including me in your side point.

Your nomiker is "cyclist" so I will ass-u-me that you ride. Why you shop or don't shop at this store has nothing to do with the blog. If you want to post those reasons, feel free. It's just not fair to paint on here with a broad brush.
