American Groups

It seems we have nearly stopped assimilating in the USA.
It went very well for about a hundred years when first generation Italians, Asians, Polish, Hungarians, Germans, French, and many other immigrants jumped right in and became engineers, doctors, mayors, congress members, and business executives.
It wasn't easy, especially for the first few generations, but the ones who wanted to do so, did it.
Now, it seems we are back-sliding into law-breaking gangs again: people who like "rasslin", car racing, dog fighting, rooster fights, and bawdy and sinful night clubs.
Also, we have minorities wanting help with everything that happens to them---more help than is reasonable---and no amount of help is ever enough.
Then, there are millions of illegals here who would also like to bring their families (including Grandma, Grandpa, and cousins) also. They may also never want to pay taxes or pay for health insurance due to their low wages.
Our middle class is disappearing rapidly. What we now are close to is those who have much more than they need, and the majority who depend upon welfare, cheaper medical treatment, free food, free schooling, and free shelter upon old age.
It is not the people doing this so much as the system we are using.
We have not got enough proper jobs, we create jobs not required, and we live on borrowed money.
A capitalist society must have those who are ingenious and successful-- a small percentage-- a very large middle class of people, and a small poor class.
That way there is hope for all.

. .and crooks, mafioso, etc. Of course slaves don't count as immigrants - but there were some 'free-born' Africans in America during the first hundred years. One was Crispus Attucks - the first colonist to die in the Revolutionary War. He really 'jumped' right in. Frederick Douglas, George Washington Carver, Benjamin Banniker, etc., were also contributors during the early history of our country - contributors of a different hue. The trouble with teaching a 'history' that leaves out a large segment of the American population is that so called knowledgeable people of 'today' have a very slanted perspective on American history.

There is no way to discuss the slave situation with the other immigrants into the USA.
There were a few blacks who rose above the others due to having better circumstances.
However, they have not assimilated as well as they could have and that can not be debated.
Until they get their politics out of the "church", do away with the NAACP, SCLC, and other one race unities, they never will. They can and should be allowed to progress as they can by us all.

That does it!!! If any of the other groups that came to this country had been subjected to the same treatment as the 'slaves' - their 'assimilation' rate might have been different. Slaves were not considered 'human' (1/5 of a white man); it was illegal to teach a slave to read in most of the southern states; (can't 'rise' without the skill of reading and obtaining an education); Your last statement is so hypocritical. They can and should be allowed to progress as they can by us all. You don't have a clue to the difference in the experience between the 'white' immigrants (and that's all whites- since the Native American Indians were here first) and the 'slave'. The reason for such organizations as the NAACP, SCLC, and other organizations that fought for the rights of the descendants of slaves to have the civil rights as guaranteed under the Constitution for all Americans was SEGREGATION. Did you ever learn/comprehend what SEGREGATION meant? Segregation: Descendants of slaves could not go to 'white' churches; descendants of slaves could not go to 'white' schools; descendants of slaves could not own property (in some states); - some of these practices were the 'law' - some were practiced as social mores. Segregation of American citizens based on the color of their skin is a black mark against our wonderful form of government. We have come a long way - but with people like you speaking as if you have some knowledge of American history - we will never overcome this negative aspect of our history. Read $; get some knowledge before you make such asinine comments!

I haven't got much to disagree with you about concerning what you said above.
However, most of what you said has been over for over one-hundred years!
All of it has been over for thirty-five years, except in the heads of a few whites and a few blacks.
How long is it going to take for the majority of a race to start having a normal family, getting a good education, stop segregating themselves, and all of them start cracking their teenagers on the head when they are acting like bandits.
Eating habits, welfare habits, social graces, and a hundred other living essentials are a problem for all races--especially in the over 13 age, and some to: ever!
Overcoming is knowing that you have. That is what we all want.

De jure segregation 'ended' 46 years ago. I was out of college, married, and had children. De facto segregation, like it or not, exists today - throughout this country. Self-segregation, implied segregation - call it what you will - it is still the legacy of slavery. I am so pleased that I have lived long enough to live in Georgia - and have my 96 year old mother with me to enjoy the manners, gentility, and friendliness of ALL of the people that we have met - black, white, yellow, red, brown. The ignorant who hold on to 'white supremacy' because of their own inadequacies still exist - but in the metro Atlanta area - one doesn't have to be faced with this ignorance as I was in the 60's and 80's. The black community - like the white community is working to 'change us' for us. (Meaning teaching our children self-respect as well as respect for others.) I congratulate those parents who have instilled in their children the need to 'love your neighbor as yourself'. Your statement regarding eating habits, welfare habits, social graces and other living essentials is so true - as you said - for all Americans, regardless of race. I think we will be successful. I have seen such a change in my short span on this planet.

like it or not, will have to speak Spanish in order to make it. The power the Latin dollar is growing stronger everyday. The border issue should have been addressed a long time ago.
