PTC Budget: YOU MAKE THE CALL

John Munford's picture

Tonight the Peachtree City Council will delve into its budget again.

It's sometimes popular to pick on the folks for increasing property taxes, but let's turn the tables. What would you, John and Jane Taxpaper, like to see cut from the budget?

This year the city went to great lengths to review its fleet of vehicles, putting off for at least one year the replacement of some that are still running OK. Same with computers.

Surely we have some professional bean counters out there with some innovative strategies for trimming budgets.

In government if something is already there it is not eliminated. Only additions are allowed.

Government, of course, actually earns no money; All money government has was seized from someone who earned it. I believe that before any politician should be able to sign any spending, he (or she) should have to sign a statement reflecting their understanding that that project needs the money more than some family needs it to eat, pay for school, buy clothes or just survive. I fully believe that any necessary gov. projects that need money would have more than enough by simply eliminating unneeded projects. While I believe we need gov. buildings, do they really need to be fancier than the homes of people the money is seized from? Do we really water fountains more than some family needs to eat? If gov. waste was eliminated, not only would there be no need to raise taxes (to seize money from those who earned it), but taxes could be reduced.

That would be a good start.
