Steve Brown: Mudcat telling the truth on Direct PAC?The remarks from poster Mudcat were brought to my attention by someone claiming to “have the truth” related to the ethics filing from the Direct PAC against me. I will address Mudcat's statements below: Mudcat: “A complaint to the State Ethics commission is not a lawsuit, therefore cannot be frivolous nor does the subject of the ethics hearing have any recourse against the State or the person bringing the complaint.” RESPONSE: The State Ethics Commission required Direct PAC to submit an official affidavit regarding testimony on their complaint. A Direct PAC official completed and signed the affidavit. There is recourse in the state of Georgia for lying on an affidavit. Mudcat: “Direct PAC did not file the ethics complaint. John Dufresne as a private citizen did.” RESPONSE: Direct PAC did, in fact, file the ethics complaint. The official state complaint form reads, “Person Bringing Complaint: Direct P.A.C.” In case you want to check for yourself, the State Ethics Commission Case Number is 2005-0102. John Dufresne, a person more susceptible to the proddings of the more gifted members of the PAC, was convinced to sign-off on the affidavit. His statement included, “I am a member of Direct P.A.C.” Mudcat: “Comcast is very embarrassed about the affidavit. They were not told how it was going to be used and they are not willing to grant The Citizen an interview to discuss it.” RESPONSE: Comcast was specifically told how their affidavit was going to be used. It is pretty clear what affidavits are used for. In reality, everyone was shocked that Direct PAC would file what has officially been recognized as a frivolous complaint. Mudcat: “No one, including Steve Brown lied about anything. The facts are that he spoke out against the SPLOST and it was shown on Comcast. The complaint and Brown's defense were caused by differing opinions of the State's requirements that Brown should or should not have registered as a political action committee. He did not register and the hearing supported that view.” RESPONSE: The State Ethics Commission ruled Direct PAC’s allegations had no merit and were dismissed. No one at the commission hearing supported Direct PAC’s views as true except their attorney, the unbelievable in this case, John B. Miller. Anyone willing to employ these kinds of intimidation tactics to silence public comment must be up to no good. Their goal is concealing the truth. Certain parties like the Chamber of Commerce (John B. Miller represents their PAC too), the former Peachtree City mayors and Direct PAC perpetuated the lies that led to a $34 million SPLOST shortfall for Peachtree City through their public statements, phony educational forums and actions of intimidation against those who dared to speak against them.
