Free ArmyMAJretired!

Cal:

Please free ArmyMAJretired! He is an honorable person who brings interesting points of view to your blog. True, he may have been a little out of line but, as you may have noticed, Basmati can be somewhat provocative also when he is at his best.

Basmati, I appeal to you to forgive the slight and join in getting ArmyMAJretired reinstated. Otherwise, he will not be here for you to provoke and the loss will be to all of us.

Cal, as owner you have the final say of course. However, as in all conflicts, I am calling for a proportional response before escalation. Editing the comments is perfectly fair but I truly feel that a complete banning for this first offense is disproportionate and probably violates the Geneva Convention.

Come on Cal. Come on Basmati.

Please.

Gentleman: "a well-mannered and considerate man with high standards of proper behavior"

"He [ArmyMAJretired] is an honorable person who brings interesting points of view to your blog."

What class to call someone with a differing opinion (I'm guessing that he often disagrees with your viewpoint) "honorable" & his comments "interesting."

"Basmati can be somewhat provocative." That is so very true Smiling

"I truly feel that a complete banning for this first offense is disproportionate and probably violates the Geneva Convention."

Surely a peace agreement can be worked out with The Citizen.

Funny this is the first time I've ever agreed with JeffC. Smiling While I totally disagree with you politically, kudos to you JeffC for showing true tolerance to differing viewpoints and acting much nicer than a certain other Democratic blogger on the site! Smiling

Mr. Beverly, please let the Major come back! Maybe put him on temporary "probation" instead of a permanent ban? Please? Pretty please? Lively debate is what makes thecitizen.com so wonderful!

BASMATI RICE
A “small” but long grained aromatic rice with a “nutlike” flavor and aroma (‘basmati’ means fragrant). Basmati rice is of Southeast Asian origin, and has been cultivated in India and Pakistan for over 8,000 years.

don’t touch the stuff, reminds me of maggots.

Denise Conner's picture

I checked online because I thought you were kidding, but, sure enough, Basmati really is a rice! "Its name means 'Queen of Fragrance' in Hindi."

Perhaps the uncultivated U.S. version, rather than being fragrant, is malodorous, like the skunk cabbage, so named "because of the malodorous, distinctive 'skunky' odor that it emits."

"Its name is derived from its odor, which is rather mild as long as the plant remains intact [i.e., you don't disagree with him]. To fully appreciate why the plant is so named, one need only tear off a fresh leaf [i.e., STRONGLY disagree with him & use logic rather than unbridled emotion], releasing a pungent odor. Though unpleasant, the smell is also not harmful [you may have to remove yourself from his presence, though]. The foul odor attracts its pollinators, scavenging flies and beetles [I'll let you make that connection yourself!]."

The skunk cabbage is politically correct, though, because it was used as a "magical talisman by various tribes of Native Americans."

BTW, the pronunciation is bahs-MAH-tee or Baas-muhtee.

Go here to see a picture, but be sure to click on the "American basmati" link for the best picture:

foodsubs.com/Rice.html

It reminds me of a scene from Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom.

"This word was used in the 2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee finals." I guess we should be impressed Smiling

All of this kind of stuff can be duplicated with ease these days.
DD214s do indicate medals, service points, time served and where, etc., Discharges indicate nothing except discharges.
Anyway, talking about it as bragging means nothing.
I have an uncle with THREE purple hearts, who to my knowledge has never discussed any of it with anyone, ever. We knew because the government sent one of those form telegrams each time it happened. His hair was also white at 20 something. He wasn't proud of shooting or getting shot!

AF A-10 "Hack" calls me a "winch" [i.e., a wench = a YOUNG woman] and now you're calling me a crone???

A crone is "an ugly, withered old woman; a hag."

A crone is "a wizened [wrinkled - NOT AT ALL!] old woman, or a kind of fairy ["a tiny imaginary being in human form, depicted as clever, mischievous, and possessing magical powers," such as Puck in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream] or goddess having the appearance of such a woman, often found in folklore and children's tales such as 'Hansel and Gretel.'"

"Many stories about hags seem to have been used to frighten children into being good."

[Is it working, Bas?]

"Hags are often seen as malevolent [not malodorous], but may also be one of the chosen forms of shapeshifting deities, such as the Morrígan," a figure from Irish mythology associated with war and death on the battlefield, a "war goddess." [I do like to battle!]

"Crone, properly speaking, means a ewe whose teeth are worn out; but metaphorically it means any toothless old beldam [an old woman, especially one who is considered ugly]." - E. Cobham Brewer 1810–1897. Dictionary of Phrase and Fable. 1898 -

[I do have all of my teeth & can use them quite well!]

"'Take up the XXXXXXX; take ’t up, I say; give to thy crone.'" — Shakespeare's Winter’s Tale, ii. 3.

"The term appears in Middle English, and might be short for hægtesse, an Old English term for witch."

“‘How now you secret, black, and midnight hags [3 witches, resembling the mythological Fates, impersonally weaving the threads of human destiny, who plot mischief against Macbeth using charms, spells, and prophecies]?’” Shakespeare: Macbeth, iv. I.

(Their most famous line is probably “Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble” in IV.i.10–11.)

“Throughout the play, the witches – referred to as the ‘weird sisters’ by many of the characters - lurk like dark thoughts and unconscious temptations to evil. In part, the mischief they cause stems from their supernatural powers, but mainly it is the result of their understanding of the weaknesses of their specific interlocutors – they play upon Macbeth’s ambition like puppeteers.”

My, how you do like to associate me with evil, but you do credit me with more power than I really have!

"In the Popeye comics and cartoons, Popeye is sometimes pursued by a villainous witch called Sea Hag, who has an unrequited love for the sailor."

[Are you going to call me a "stalker" like you did Enigma in your post "Not gonna happen" on Fri, 04/06/2007 - 10:50am?]

Crone is not to be confused with crony -- "a longtime close friend or companion." Smiling

** TO AVOID LIBEL AND-OR SLANDER OR HATE SPEECH CHARGES **

Please note that fairy (Offensive Slang) can be used as "a disparaging term for a homosexual man."

=======

By the term nerd do you mean a "foolish, inept, or unattractive person" or "a person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept"?

[I'm not the one who's calling names, am I, & I think that I can carry on a conversation quite well. Smiling ]

[mainstream slang] "Pejorative applied to anyone with an ABOVE-AVERAGE IQ [How did you guess?] and few gifts at small talk and ordinary social rituals."

WORD HISTORY: "The word nerd, undefined but illustrated, first appeared in 1950 in Dr. Seuss's If I Ran the Zoo .... (The nerd is a small humanoid creature looking comically angry, like a thin, cross Chester A. Arthur.)"

Just a couple of things you should know.

Using Basmati, brain, or exercise in the same sentence should NEVER happen.

Secondly, banmany will try very hard to censor you, or have Cal censor you. He will run and hide from facts or call foul and cry for you to be banned when you best him. He turns nearly every discussion in to a personal attack.

Ultimately, he would like to have your 'dissenting voice of normalcy' banned as he did with Army Major so he can brag about his pro-censorship by making a cute little banner for his moniker that says 'banned'.

Finally, unless you really are a crone then banmany is a liar. If indeed he is a liar, talking to him is useless since he will mold statements to fit his imagination.

Having read your posts, I am glad you are here. You are bright and witty. Best of luck to you Denise!

I'd not say that he doesn't have a brain; then I'd being calling him a vegetable, the favorite argument used for murdering Terri Schiavo.

"banmany will try very hard to censor you, or have Cal censor you"

I wouldn't expect any less of liberals! The First Amendment is for ONLY for them, isn't it? But it is SO MUCH FUN to make them lose their cool and resort to name-calling, usually within their first sentence!

"Liar" - Only what I expect, but I'll not give up hope that the truth will shine upon him (to quote "Hack").

I'm not a crone at all, mischievous, yes -- evil, no Smiling

I therefore apologize for any and all derogatory comments I have ever made about you.

I have a habit of not turning the other cheek. I will be held accountable for that one day. I'm good at escalating the nastiness level when responding to nastiness. I'm sure I'll be held accountable for that down the road. But pleeaaazzze... don't let my bride read any of this. She's an angel but will not hesitate to whoop up on me when she thinks I step out of line. Kind of like Hack. Whatcha wanna bet his wife sets him straight too.

I should not let your near-constant attacks on my patriotism and religious faith get to me.

Now you're getting out of line. I've never attacked you personally regarding your faith. I respond to your attacks on others and myself and step it up to your level in my opinion. Naturally I would expect you to interpret otherwise.

Like Hutch once said, I should consider the source.

Consider the source. In real life I'm the guy you want on your side.

Nevertheless, it doesn't excuse some of my pathetic attempts to match your sheer crassness and overall incivility.

Hey...my age hint. I was in kindergarten and I live and breathed the Rat Patrol as a kid. So I guess it would be safe to say that Barry didn't have a big impact on my life.

In 79 I saw my first president at the National FFA Convention that took place in November of each year in KC. In a hotel that used to supposedly house Truman from time to time and I think they reserved it for the presidents. The secret service wouldn't let me past a glass door. Shortly there after President Jimmy Carter got off the elevator and headed for his ride. I was disappointed though. I thought a president stood 10 feet tall. Heck he was my size. I then got to hear him speak at our convention. Hmmm...I can't remember a word he said.

Jeff. How about a myth buster moment. An acquaintance once told me that he used to see your dad (while Governor)jot down the names of his detractors in a little black book he kept in his front pocket so he could add them to his shoey list. Any truth to that?

ArmyMAJretired did not get banned for upsetting user basmati. Rather, his comments were edited and he was banned for violating the rules of TheCitizen.com. We are clear that we do not allow foul language to be posted on the site, and ArmyMAJretired seemed to think he was above that particular rule. In several recent posts, ArmyMAJretired used various words that are clearly inappropriate for this website, and as a result he has lost his privilege to participate. For those of you who may be tempted in a future post to violate the rules, re-read what you have written and decide whether you want to keep your membership to this site. Keep it clean.

Anyone that uses a DSL or similar type connection can easily by-pass your posting security. It was done before to the point Cal had to take down the forum as the Citizen's hosting company doesn't have the equipment or qualified personnel to run an appropriate trace on the IP.

Heck, there are a few of us that can mask or otherwise counterfeit the broadcast IP or MAC address we use. Not a very difficult thing to do.

So, if RetiredArmyMAJ decided to join the forum you would have no way to stop him.

If the hosting company had it's act together they would add a filter table of "Banned" and/or "Edited" words that would be either replaced or blanked out prior to a post making it to display. That wouldn't take a rocket scientist to code. Just do us all a favor and add the phrase "basmati" as the first word.

ArmyMAJretired did not use any words that have not been used here before. That the Citizen chose to make an example of him for what ever reason shows us clearly that the Citizen has some type of ax to grind.

When the Citizen stood up to the the so-called lawyer of Westmoron, that was a dog with no bark or bite, over what a poster posted we were led to believe that the Citizen had some modicum of class if not an outright backbone.

I guess we were all fooled.

Has the Citizen ever had fellow bloggers stand up for one of our own before?

I think if you look at the posts over this issue you would find that the overwhelming majority of us would rather you {{{ EDITED AND BANNED }}} basmati for inciting the issue in the first place.

I was online during the entire time basmati and ArmyMAJ were going at it and never saw "foul language" whatsoever. It was several hours after the hub-bub that ArmyMAJ's posts got edited and those posts didn't contain any "foul language" or "inappropriate words" for that matter, unless it is now considered that the term "child molester" is an inappropriate term of some sort.

I think we'd all like to know besides the very dumb implication that basmati is something what exactly he posted that the Citizen took exception to. I KNOW why The Citizen would have a problem with the "child molester" bit, but now you bring up foul language and inappropriate words that we have never seen posted here.

Nuk, Major was using some scatological references in his post at the end. He thought he was being cute by substituting some asterisks.

Cal Beverly was very clear last year,
"Obscenities -- including disguised obscenities containing marks like $$ in place of the actual letters -- will result from this point on in your posting being obliterated and your posting privileges removed.

The obscenities, profanities and curse words -- some of which are contained in the infamous "seven forbidden words" -- are forbidden on this site in any form, including a disguised form like a$$."

For the record, I will say that his comment about child molesters and yourself was way out of line and I agree with it being deleted. If no one at the Citizen had said a word, I think everyone would agree that they did what they had/should do. The "foul language" and "inappropriate terms" and then "not banned for upsetting user basmati" seems to imply he was banned for something entirely different than what he was obviously banned for. They wouldn't have edited his post where he made that insinuation otherwise.

Boykin went after the blogger quite rudely and I defended him (Spidyman) and Myword_Mark went after Boykin attacking 'spidyman' much to the dismay of the 'often offended' king of censorship (basmati).

You guys are not exactly “blogger friendly” if it's not your point of view being espoused are you?

Seems like a terse warning after you deleted the man's blogs would have sufficed - it has for others in the past.

Hey Enigma, I remember that. I defended Myword_mark too. Bas accused me of "enabling mark."

Ban me instead of the Major Cal, I don't care. The Major should be allowed to post on here.

I am sure I will be banned soon too. I welcome it. I do not believe that the major was treated fairly at all. NUK seems to be on top of it as well. Unlike some cafeteria liberals, I feel that we should all be treated equally and fairly - that includes the 'conservatives'.

I disagree with much of what some people on here say, but I applaud their right to say it when they say it without making it in to a personal attack.

There is nothing in the world wrong with any point of view that is sincere. I fought for that right and so did Army Major. Discussing the origin of one's opinion, or the rational behind it, is what this form is for.

What this form is NOT for is to call people names like inbred, mouth breathing, knuckle dragging etc., etc., as one has done. Apparently though, if you suck up to the staff of the Citizen when they attack a blogger like they did ‘spidyman’ they don’t mind if you call people racists, or post Klanpoints ©, (or call Myword_Mark a pedophile as our little cry baby censor beggar did at least once in the past) it’s just for our veterans to be banned.

In my opinion, despite the Major's alleged transgression and the crying of one HUGE censorship cry baby hypocrite, the Citizen ‘censored’ the wrong blogger.

P.S. I see Col. Mark everyday and I'll tell him you said hello. (My sister is a lawyer who represents his businesses). Eye-wink

God bless you - and if I get banned - you take care!

I didn't see any "foul language" or "inappropriate terms" or *****. Smiling

I think simply deleting the offending posts of ArmyMAJ and saying "cool off" would have been enough, but I don't make the rules:)

Come on Cal. Jeff's right. Please bring the Major back. This doesn't look good at all if you think about it. You just banned Army Major for the exact same vicious statement that Basmati is guilty of of using himself. Heck the Major looks like an Eagle Scout compared to the vicious, nasty, and shameless Bas.

Tell you what.... How about banning me instead and let me take Army Major's place. Just bring the Major back.

I haven't been reading the posts for a while.

Will someone please tell me why the Major was banned. Sad
What did he say to Bas?

It must have been something really bad, after some of the things Bas has said to almost everyone on here.

If you can't say it, spell it. Smiling

there weren't any profanities. He said something like "speaking of child molesters, why haven't they picked you up" to basmati and then basmati started demanding an apology and blah blah blah. Libel! Cal delete this! NO, you go pound sand! And so forth.

All that is seen here is that the post where ArmyDude said the above was "edited." It didn't appear like any "profane words" were used whatsoever. I saw all of his posts before they were edited and no bad language or anything resembling such was used. The posts were simply edited because of the child molester bit and the demands of basmati or whatever.

You are wrong. Just because you say you didn't see the words, doesn't mean they weren't there. I actually did see the posts before they got edited, and there were quite a few words that I was surprised lasted any length of time on here given Cal's guidelines. It's convenient for you to say that the words didn't exist, but you are straight up wrong. And this is outside of the remark about "child molester" - these were straight forward profanities that I know my mom and dad didn't allow me to use growing up. And just to clarify, besides the one thinly masked word in the "child molester" post, the followup post is the one I'm referring to with at least 4-5 curse words. There is no excuse for allowing another poster to get you so riled up that you will post crude language on a site children may see. I don't care what your personal feelings about basmati or armymajor are, that's a simple truth.

Are you talking about actual WORDS or this ****** ? Just curious. Also, I said what I saw before the posts were edited, not that "whatever" never existed in the first place. I was not here every second of the day but saw a lot of posts that are now edited before they were edited. People can also edit their own posts so if ArmyMaj/whoever changed something, it could be missed.

As far as letting someone get under your skin and so forth, I totally agree. Sometimes you have to just step away from the computer if you feel the need to trash someone so much that it might get the siteowner and yourself into trouble. Let it go:)

I'm talking about actual words, and there were quite a few of them, not just the one disguised word with *** going on.

Well said.

I think people often forget that this is a privately owned site, and not a right that people have. Smiling

If I told you the answer, it would be my last post as AF A-10. Suffice it to say the s word and a word were used with great vigor. It is easy to forget that even though we are mostly adults, young eyes are privey to our words. Let's all consider this a learning tool.

Hope all is well with you and yours also.

Hack, I was kidding. I didn't really expect anyone to answer my question. Smiling

I'm thinking that Bas probably provoked the Major. (my opinion)
I've lost my temper on here a few times too.
It's easy to click on post comment, before you think about it.

Who will I spin yarns of war stories with? How will he answer my statements on Jebb Bush and wind mills and Rudy Guliani's son? Think of it as an Easter present.
