Eating Out

I was over by Newnan & that Johnny Caroni place is being made into "Pegleg Pauley's" Looks like the Valention's guys have gone total Carribe.
What's going on w/ Buckhead Brew? Old Mill? Onoxx? Anyone got anything to report?

We went there last night for the first and last time. Half hour for a table (normal wait for a Friday night), waited 15 minutes for our server to acknowledge us, then after 40 minutes, still no appetizer. Several other diners around us had the same issues. We finally flagged our server down, and asked for a manager. She said "he's busy - it will be a few minutes". We thanked her and said we'd be leaving.

I am not saying this as a disgruntled, hard to please customer. I am saying this as a person who has extensive experience in food service....I've waited tables at many restaurants, from the busiest Denny's in California as a young woman to four star dining in metropolitan NYC. This dining experience could have been salvaged simply by training the wait staff. Owner/manager of Peglegs, take heed to my advice:

- Let your waitstaff know that if they don't have any good news for the diners, do NOT ignore them. Have them approach the diners and say "I am sorry for the delay - let me check your order for you".

- Economy of motion! I observed servers making four trips across the dining room to deliver various small items. A good server would have delivered all those items on one pass of the dining room.

- Anyone who is near the cook's line delivers food if it is ready, even if it is not "their" food. I saw food sit under the heat lamps for up to ten minutes, untouched, as various waitstaff walked past it. I am sure it was cold by the time it was delivered.

- Manager - walk around and talk to your patrons! You would have seen that many diners were waiting far too long for service - far too long!

Good service goes a long way, in my book, in mitigating a negative dining experience. I don't fault my server. She was stressed out. However, I also feel as though she was not properly trained. We might have stuck it out and waited (instead of getting wings to go from Loco's) if our server had talked to us about what was going on instead of avoiding us because she had no food for us.

Get it together, Pegleg Paulys. If you'd like me to come in and give some "foodservice bootcamp" to your servers, I'd be glad to. You need to do something, or I suspect you won't be in business long.

Thanks for the heads-up about this place. I've been curious about it for months and wanted to take the family there to check it out - but I don't think I'll waste our time or money now.

The only restaurant that we continue to go to, year after year, is Smokey Bones in PTC, because they have GREAT service and good food at reasonable prices. You would think that restaurant management would know that the key to success is GREAT service combined with good food - not too difficult to understand, right??

We go to J.Christophers's for breakfast and lunch also, because the service is fairly good and the food is as well.

Too bad about Pegleg P's.... I was really hoping for an 'island experience', close to home.

Buckhead Brewery is being tore down to make room for a Walgreen's. Sad to tear down a beautiful building. I'm hoping where Macaroni Grill was, we get a Red Lobster or Olive Garden. Of course my best hope is a Krystals (That was for you Git Real)! Ate at Ga Shrimp Company last night and had to wait for a table, but it was worth it! Best fish and chips in town, and a wonderful, well spoken and polite waiter. If the food is good, and the staff and friendly, you have my business. Seems like the prices went up since last time I was there.

Sorry, I had a valid point about restaurants, but I was distracted by that stupid dog with Parkinson's.

Ok, I'm coming back now. Walgreen's is a done deal - Log cabin has been purchased and it is all over. Macaroni Grill is gone because of the Delta problem. Hopefully that will end soon and we will see some TexMex moving into the old MG.

I've been saying for awhile that this is my favorite in PTC. Try the Chili Shrimp but tell 'em you want rice, for some reason it comes w/ fries. I have been trying to git them to put Shrimp & Grits on the menu.

This is a pretty good way to advertise: have people write in and brag. Last time I was there it wouldn't hold 20 people comfortably.

Submitted by bladderq on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 8:56pm.

It holds more than 20 people but what if it didn't? The food is good, the prices are reasonable. The Clam Chowder isn't bad either.

So your point is that we shouldn't write about places we like? Give us something you actually like.....enquiring palates want to know.

Good food and a nice variety too.

Oh yeah, big national chains, you can have'em.

I was shocked to see that the Macaroni Grill had closed down. It was always packed with customers, and for the most part, there was always a wait to get in. Does anyone know why it closed down?

Rumor has it and I'm sure McDonough Dawg will check it out and verify for us, that the Macaroni Grill is being tore down to make room for a new CVS Drugstore. Add this to the plans to close the Longhorn down and convert it into a NAPA auto parts store. The good news is that Hobby Lobby is going to move into the Walmart store that is soon to be vacated so that Walmart can build a new Super Center at the intersection of Hwy 74 & TDK Road. As soon as the current lease is up at K-mart I plan on replacing it with an indoor swap shop to draw in tax revenue from Clayton, Fulton, Coweta and Spalding Counties.

Somebody's got to raise revenues to pay for Wastemoreland, Seabaugh & Group VI's bridge.

Eye-wink

Who keeps saying that macaroni grill was busy, they always had there backroom closed to make it seem busier than it actually was.

Lets recap the retaurants in PTC

Longhorn: always busy won't be closing and large company

Outback: sometimes on a wait but normally due to its size and poor kitchen and large company will be here for a while

Carrabas: always busy now that mac grill is gone

Chilis: kinda of busy u very small

Smokey bones very big and always kinda of usy

Teds: Gone soon

Taco Mac: A bar not a restaurant

Three dollar: any day now

Submitted by Jones on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 1:31pm.

I've been told Longhorns' numbers are dropping.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 5:15pm.

Food is dropping yes, but the money is in the bar! Don't make anything anyway on the food.

Submitted by Flydecajon on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 1:08pm.

...Teds is here to stay I go there at least one time a week and they always have people there. The bison is great, the food is great. If they were having a problem why would they spend the money for the outside dining??? The Mac grill is out due to a long term lease the owner of the building wanted, that is the reason they are gone Mac-grill did not want to sign a long term lease....

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 5:10pm.

The restaurant business is unique in that the quantity of customers is many times not the reason for shut-down problems.
Leases was probably the Macaroni problem. One side wanted a reduction in per year rent, the other wanted 10 years lease to do that. Leases for those million dollar buildings cost more than the help does. Ten years in today's Washington is a million years!
The other money matters are that the overhead setup is so much different for a pretentious restaurant, that is, one that tries to appeal to a certain type of people by maybe providing fancy servants and chefs with black ties, and those where your waiter is 19. Also, of course, there are many other ways to show that you want to make certain people feel important. The food in such places quite often is no better than The Village Cafe in Fayetteville! Some people will even pay 2-3 times as much for a meal just to have more room and privacy and more "attention."
Chain restaurants are managed by headquarters basically, and from computer information, and an occasional inspection. How much the banks own and how much the company owns also make a diffence. Local managers have been fired from the results of a week's computer runs from his or her restaurant, or poor liquor inventories.
As to Ted's not going, due to spending money on outide dining, that could mean nothing! They are ripping down the Buckhead Brewery aren't they, after just spending millions!
Today's businees management, in general, in most businesses, is strange and weird.

I've tried a lot of the food on the menu at Taco Mac in the past few months and I think it is a disservice to call it "a bar not a restaurant."

The hickory burger rivals any burger in the county, the Southwest Chicken Wrap is delicious, although it can be a little too spicy and the tacos, especially the chicken tacos, are great. Plus, the desserts are awesome. We had a group of people there one night after a play and everybody ordered one so we could all try a little of each of them - they were great.

Yeah, they have like 300 beers and a full bar - but a "bar" wouldn't have as good a menu as Taco Mac does.

You know, I heard all that stuff too. Isn't that odd?
Did you hear about the new library in PTC and the town hall being torn down and an Indian Casino, McIntosh Indians, along with a 500 room hotel being built there by three local developers? Lindsay is the attorney. Canoes will be allowed by patrons on the lake if they buy enough kickapoo joy juice, first.
Additionally, The mayor, Group VI, and Bob Lenox have combined into Screwummuchum, LLC, and will build a horse racing track where the youth baseball fields are now located in south PTC. As soon as the Georgia legislature and the Governor sign a bill allowing liquor by the drink at Indian casinos and horse racing tracks on Sundays before noon.
The PTC airport will then be expanded into a jet-port, capable of landing Arab 727s. The current golf course, near the airport, will be converted into a horse farm and stud paradise.
Marta (private cars only) will be run from the Horse Farm to Atlanta/Franklin/King/Sharpton/Rice/Powell/Campbell/Maddox International Airport on the existing RR tracks by special license.

You people have way too much time on your hands! I must admit, though, you are very humorous! Do either of you actually know the real answer to why the Mac Grill closed down? Your ideas were good, but I would prefer it to become an upscale Dollar Store, with enough parking for golf carts, and employees in their tennis outfits. That would go with the personality of Peachtree City!

The same company owned On the Border, and they own Chilis too. I thought both places were always busy, but apparently not busy enough.

I thought that a pawn shop/title loan place was going into the macaroni location.......It works better for the cops to set up stings ..Even the crooks know wally trash mart itsn't the place to hang...

I also was led to believe that a supersized adult book store was going to be put up at TDK and hwy 74 as part of groupVI conserted effort to make us the next river/crimedale?

Have all of the plans changed?

Please tell me that we are not keeping trees in the city....tell me that the plans to clear cut the whole city have not fallen through.

Don't worry... the clear cutting is still on. I hear Logsdon is going to tout an added benefit to the concept of clear cutting. It's going to revolve around public safety issues. No downed trees on powerlines and houses during thunderstorms and no place for the bad guys to hide when our law enforcement guys are running them down.

Trees are a cop's worst enemy. To joke around about criminals hiding in or up them is dangerous and irresponsible. I've been a cop in Peachtree City since 1992 and have seen hundreds of my fellow officers gunned down from the thick. And how can you expect an officer to enforce the law if he's too busy sneezing and rubbing his eyes. Trees are a menance to society, they enable criminal and terrorist activities and ought to be destroyed post-haste.

Sarcasm is sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, situation or thing. It is often used in a humorous or ironic manner.

I hear harold and group of dumb and dumber have their own tree service now. In an effort to make us look like riverdale, they will offer a discount to anyone who cuts down 2 or more trees.

Also it will cut down on the pollen.....that harold....always looking out for us....what a guy! It's just give, give, give, that's his motto.

Driving down Hwy. 74 is very depressing. I can't wait to see what the barrier walls are going to look like.

The vision is gone and so are the trees.
