Peachtree City Village

I just got a call from a company hired by Columbia Properties - they told me about this website:

http://peachtreecityvillage.com/

and then listed all of the 'pros' to this project. I was then asked if I approved, and was only given 'approve' or 'oppose' as answers to the question.

I'm sure they could build the shopping center to look nice, but why do we have things like zoning and the big box ordinance if we're not going to abide by them?

(also, notice the big green blocks surrounding the shopping center in the drawing? They're colored green and labeled 'outlot' - that means more store/bank/fast food unless I'm wrong.)

How many stores does one city really need? Does anyone reading this really, honestly feel like there aren't enough places around for you to spend your money? Now I know everyone has a wish list of which store could be something different from what they are now - for example, I'd rather have a JoAnn or Micheals instead of the Kmart. But does anyone feel like there just aren't enough places to shop?

I think it's time for the City to say 'Enough is enough' already and turn down the rezoning request. Industrial sounds like it brings big smokestacks, but wouldn't it be more along the lines of Cooper Lighting or something similar? As long as it's not a toxic waste producer, surely we'd be better off leaving the zoning alone instead of opening the door to even more traffic, crime, lights and underpaid jobs. All the reasons I have for opposing the TDK extension apply to this project, except of course for the part about the underpaid jobs - TDK would just funnel underpaid workers THROUGH the city instead of attracting cars that would park here.

What do you think?

The more big stores the more tax money and the more places to shop.
Why is that a bad thing?

What "tax" money are you expecting from this particular "Big Box"?

Is there something that you need that is not available to you now from another source?

Do city services and degradation to same concern you?

Do you live in PTC?

Just asking.

I have no tax money from stores. I like big stores to shop for things. I do not live in your city.

Thank you.

Go to Buckhead, like the rest of us when we want "upscale" stores like Frontgate, Tommy Bahama, Nordstrom, Restoration Hardware, etc....

We already decimated one community in the metro area, why clear cut another??

It's called I85, get on it.

I do not know what upscale stores you are talking about. I do not travel I85.

You have destroyed many lands including the land of the Creek and the Shawnee and the Cherokee. All of this state is raided lands where only a few hundred now live.

Now you will worry about a village that grows to meet the wants of your brothers?

An egg can be eaten in a bite but a grown alligator is a worthy opponent.

You should have cared much sooner skyspy.

Thank you

Rivers likes the Cleveland Indians tribe and the Washington Redskins. Not too favorable about the McIntosh Chiefs, though. The Florida Semiholes really upset him.
The Mics and the Spics and the Chinks and the Wops, and the Tallies, and the slant eyes, are really the ones who did the injuns in.
My folks were one of those, I think--on the Mayflower, or was it a slave ship from Africa, run by the British.
I do contribute all I can to the Casinos they run and to AA, since I sincerely think we screwed them around badly. You are no Indian Rivers, who are you?

After centuries of shuffling the native American Indian from place to place the U.S. Govt., in all of it's wisdom, finally settled these folks on land that was only good from growing rocks, very expensive rocks.

Thar's Uranium in Them Thar Hills

"unbeknownst to the policy-makers who implemented the allotment policy during the late nineteenth century, much of the ostensibly useless land to which native people were consigned has turned out to be some of the most mineral-rich on earth. It is presently estimated that two-thirds of all US “domestic” uranium deposits lie beneath reservation lands, as well as a quarter of the readily accessible low sulfur coal, and about a fifth of the oil and natural gas. In addition, the reservations are now known to be endowed with substantial quantities of copper, zinc, iron, nickel, molybdenum, bauxite ,zeolites, and gold, among other mineral assets.”

Now it might be the native American Indian's turn.

Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground. Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down.

Up north they run casinos and all of the profits are tax free. They have done very well.

Sitting Bull I think. Or is it Quanah Parker?

As you call him, Sitting Bull. I believe that Quanah Nocona was from the Comanche in the south land. He was also half devil. Tatanka Iyotaka was a Sioux who ruled the 'badlands'of the North.

Does anyone know how many Indian Chiefs were elected? Did the women get to vote? What situation required a Chief be elected just for that group? Did they also originally have a poll tax?
Could more than one Indian run for Chief? Did the sons of Chiefs have an advantage (like Bush and Bush?)
Why were some called different names (Comanche, Sioux) than others? Is that like Italians, Asians, Africans, etc.?
Did these folks come across Alaska from China or Mongolia, and some drop off in Alaska, some in the north, some in the west, some in the south, and some to South America? Or, were they just here?
I ain't never been able to figure them out!

You are an angry and hollow man. Your tongue will cause great pain to those around you. All I see from you is hate and dislike for Pat Tillman and his ancestors and all American "Indian". You hate your own government and that of my ancestors. You kill some trees and want more of others. You are not the great creator dollaradayandfound. All trees have a reason. You are a shallow man.

Thank you

Some are reasoned to be cut down and paper made, ugh, madeum! Some for mulchum, ugh. Some for houses and treepees poles, ugh. Some to let houses and treepees be built in their place, ugh. Even Great White Father, Lincoln, splittum the rails for fences!
Pat Tillman big hero, me not hateum him---don't know him. He was betrayed by forked-tongue not so great white fathers. Him dead.
I kill some trees and want more of others? Don't savvy that.
Saw three deer in yard at 2:00 A.M. Would feed your chief and his people for days. Thought of you.
I no hate government, just the ones messing with it.
Thank you

Ahhh...Tatanka Iyotaka indeed did rule the Northern Badlands. Everyone knows him well. Quanah Nocoana? Hmmm.... I NEW IT! Yeah, I always suspected Parker wasn't a real Indian name. Eye-wink

Quanah Nocoana was indeed half devil to those who fought him. He ruled SW Oklahoma and fair chunk of Texas if I remember right. A tremendous warrior chief who later befriended the White Eyes. I'm pretty certain he is buried at Fort Sill along side men he fought against. Geronimo is buried there also. But not on the grounds of Fort Sill. Now I'm going to have to look some stuff up and see how accurate my recollection of that area and the SW Indian wars is.

Quanah Nocona Parker

I was able to edit this reply in time to add the above link. The plot thickens. I was partly right. I knew I liked that dude for some reason. It seems he eventually became friends with Teddy Roosevelt. Smiling

That has been explained on here several times.
About every 20 years these shopping areas that are built around the big boxes close--replaced by newer, more modern places elsewhere. That leaves a non-tax paying blight. No on will rent an old big box for anything except maybe a junk barn or a cheap warehouse.
Traffic and acres of concrete also are harmful. Build a few out by themself only and with a small area parking building with less pavement.

So, you wish to have a permanent village that cannot grow and cannot shrink? Isn't it too late for that already?

Thank you.

No, what we want is good growth. Colleges, offices, museums, high tech, etc., not every big box chain that exists who pay $8.00 per hour.

I submitted my Do not build in PTC responce to this. They asked me to email them with questions. So you all should send emails to the following address to express your concerns.

questions@peachtreecityvillage.com

Bombard them with concerns. We all know they are not going to be any high paying jobs in these developments. The few management positions they have will be brought in from existing stores. I know this for a fact I have consulted in Human Captial Management for most of these companies. I know their mode of operation.

These are the benefits they say they are bringing us:

More Dining and Shopping Choices
- did we ask for these? Are we complaining b/c we have to drive to Fayetteville or Newnan sometimes?
Heck we have restaurants leaving town already b/c there is not enough business. Do they not do their homework?

Improved Traffic Flow
- HA HA, they are really smoking something

Residential Rewards
- yes we will have rewards alright, increased traffic, increased crime, noise, trash on roads, did I already mention increased traffic, oh yes and increased traffic.
Good Luck.

I went to the developer's Web site and entered the following:

First Name: Don't Build
Last Name: in PTC

e-mail: dont@inPTC

Everybody ought to complete their form in like manner.

I went to that darn website that you listed, jenn. It just made me even more angry about the whole "development". The part that really irritates me, is that there is a little sign-in to show your support for the project, but I couldn't find a place to tell them to shove it up their butts. If they REALLY cared about what the citizens thought, they would have a general "Post All Comments Here" page or SOMETHING. Oooohhh, that makes me mad! What if we don't support it?!?! That just goes to show you that they REALLY DON'T CARE. I grew up in Peachtree City, graduated McIntosh H.S., and have always thought this would be a lovely place to raise a family. Now, it's turning into an over-devloped mess... And they just want to keep adding to the problem. I'm disgusted.

I think they forgot to add a "No Thanks" option.

The name is somewhat ironic, "Peachtree City Village" considering the inconsistency with the city's master plan of villages. Peachtree City is not hurting for tax revenues enough to justify a development so contrary to our founding principles.

Go to the developer's slick website....Not a single individual's name. No one will claim this mess. The only names you can find are the Atlanta midtown pretty boys that put together the website. Gee, I wonder why there are no local individuals backing this pig.

The developers of the PTC Village are doing both phone and snail-mail surveys.

They've got their marketing people working overtime on this.

Take Get-Real's survey and then maybe we'll get a less slanted idea of what the citizens really think.

They asked if I had heard about the Rockaway Road development, I said yes.

They then asked if I supported it, I replied that I was opposed to it. They said thanks and hung up!

I'm on the no/call list so I am interested in how they got my number!

I bet it's Bush and the patriot act!

Got the call this afternoon. Long "push poll" question about "since this was MUCH better than dense housing which would be BAD for traffic and since this site would pay MUCH more in taxes..yada yada".

Said no thanks, I opposed it and they said thanks and hung up.

This is the first unsolicited call I've had in two years of being on the No-call list.
