Cal is right: No financial discipline from PTC Council

Mayor Harold Logsdon needs to get off his can and stop putting off his duties as mayor. All the talk about financial accountability was nice during the campaign, but it’s time to back it up!

Killing our town with big boxes as a way to get around his ineptitude as mayor and properly handling our city budget is ridiculous. In the end, we’ll get the Lowes and the Kohls and still have our taxes increased.

Look at the following from an Atlanta Journal article in 2006 entitled, “Ga. city awaits remedy for EMS problem.”

“Peachtree City was hoping for an agreement to end what it calls ‘double taxation.’

Peachtree City has its own EMS but still helps fund the county's to the tune of $220,149 a year. That's nearly 20 percent of the tax-funded portion of the county EMS budget.

Logsdon and council members Judi-ann Rutherford, Stuart Kourajian and Steve Boone want the county to create an EMS tax district that excludes Peachtree City from contributing to county EMS.”

So what has happened since then? Well Mayor Logsdon and crew have done absolutely NOTHING. Fayette County is adding 25 new employees, in part, with our Peachtree City funds and we still get nothing in terms of service.

I think calling Mayor Logsdon a paper tiger is an exaggeration. He’s more like a paper worm. He is going to increase our taxes, add harmful big box stores and let the county keep our quarter of a million dollars every year.

The 2008 budget is going to be a disaster and the crime and traffic will make it a whole lot worse.

1 part clear rum (myers)
1 part triple sec ( I let it run over just a little
1 part tequila
1/2 grand marnier
3 parts sweet and sour
2 parts pepsi ( it's sweeter than coke, much better)

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Mayor Harold to get our tax money back from the county like he promised. Also, be sure not to bet your house on his pledge of rolling taxes back. And the promise about keeping Peachtree City the great place it has always been can be wiped from your mind too after his pitch for more traffic and big box stores. Remember his zero based budgeting plan that was never implemented?

Mayor Harold made out like he was going to be a Henry Kissinger and build fantastic relations with the other governments. Well the Coweta government told us to stick it. The Fayette government said don’t talk to us about doubt taxation. GDOT cut down every tree possible on Highway 74. And we are the laughing stock of the other city councils.

Start shining your wallet because your next tax increase is on the way. The mayor never lets his conscience cloud his bad judgment.

Spear Guy has it right again. Governmental agencies hose each other as a matter of course. Fact of life. Fayette County does it. They figure that since these are incorporated citizens they lose their status as Fayette Countians. Go figure. The County has always treated the cities like redheaded stepchildren, with the lawyers and adminstrators leading the way for the commissioners that come and go. Logsdon did promise a Kumbayah detente with all the agencies, and all we had to do was jettison Caustic Steve. Surprise--- Coweta County and DOT will still ruin us without hesitation

Voice of Fayette is right. "Caustic Steve" was the reason Direct PAC, Bob Lenox and Fred Brown gave for needing a change in elected office. Has anybody noticed how quite "Caustic Steve's" critics are now. When is the last time Bob Lenox or Fred Brown have made a peep?

I thought Steve Brown cared about the homeowners in Peachtree City more than anyone else who held the office.

Harold Logsdon is a dirty politican. He will say anything to get what he wants.

Yes, "Caustic Steve" was the reason Direct PAC was formed.
Yes,"Caustic Steve" was the reason that we lost a good working relationship with both Fayette and Coweta County.

And finally, yes, "Caustic Steve" is why Coweta is thumbing their nose at us now and why we got screwed on sales tax distribution.
Thanks a pantload "Caustic Steve"

I really like that nickname. Maybe I'll use it at his ethics hearing on April 5.

Don't think you are one, since there are only 3 in the county and I know where they live, but that's exactly what liberals do when faced with an inconveinent truth - not address the issue at all, but change it completely and make a totally unrelated accusation - like you just did.

"Caustic Steve" may have been right about many things and others may have been wrong about many things, but the point is that "Caustic Steve" did not have the maturity or leadership skills to get along with others - specifically Coweta County and Fayette County and more generally DOT and the State Legislature. That character defect alone cost PTC millions of dollars during his 4 year reign of terror. Maybe more if you factor in the loss of economic growth when we perceived as a closed-door community.

That's what's wrong with "Caustic Steve" and again, he may have had the correct intellectual position on many issues, but he couldn't actually do anything about them because he was incapable of getting widespread support for anything.

Now we have a completely different problem at city hall, lack of intellectual firepower in any of the 5, but the one thing that is similar to the faults of the previous administration is the inability to achieve consensus on important issues. We are in for a lot of 3 to 2 votes that will please no one.

Let me tell you how tax INCREASES are handled by the increasers: A news release is scripted for the paper saying that the taxes are going down, that the millage rate is decreasing.00000001% from last year, which will save the $200,000 homeowner $.01 dollars per year.
The next week somebody issues a notice on page three that the INCOME from taxes has INCRESED 15% over last year. Increase the budget 15%!
How can that be, you say? You plan to spend 15% more next year but taxes went down?
Yes, well you see, we figured that your house was worth 15% more, so when that is multiplied by the millage, we get more money.
But doesn't that mean I'll pay more taxes? Not really!
Well yes, but your house is worth more if you want to sell it, we think. That will pay you back, or will it? My new house will also cost 15% more, won't it?
You just don't understand government income, I think, sir.

Then we'll each get a chance to tell the council just how we feel.

If only the folks at Wilshire show up, then the rest of you don't get to complain anymore.

Because 99.9% couldn't get in. If too much of a disturbance was raised, the meeting would be scheduled for 4:30 PM on Monday!
Letters and vote threats directly to each one is ALL that might work.
They assume about 10 people on here are complaining and they don't mean much.
The doom was settled at the last election.

$ it's thinking like yours that's MOST of the problem.

The City Council knows that at least half of the citizens couldn't be bothered to actually take time from the TV to show up and voice their opinion.

Case in point, the vote on the tennis center. Less than 15 people, not counting the high school kids that were forced to be there, showed up.

If nothing else it gave the council a true example that there are plenty of folks, like you, that will plant themselves in front of a keyboard and complain for hours but they wont get off there butt's and do something about it.

Emails are easily dealt with by pressing "delete". If dealing with you were only that simple.

Cal, I guess we know the answer to your question.

Just think what would happen if 500 people showed up. The City Council bylaws state that each and every citizen will be granted 2 minuets of time to speak on any subject. In addition to that time an additional 3 minuets will be given to any citizen who wishes to speak about any subject on the agenda.

The City Council has no problem lying to 15 people at a time. It would be a different story if they tried to do it with 500.

I'd say the odds were 50/50 that Chief Murry would try and help the Mayor out of that one. Heck, the Chief would probably try and keep the Sheriffs officers form breaking it up.

Submitted by skyspy on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 11:31pm.

I was there. The citizens had absolutely no say......in fact there was a separate meeting with the city attorney and the whole deal was decided and signed before the "emergency" council meeting ever started. The whole thing was a huge farce. It wouldn't have mattered if all 35,ooo had showed up......our councilFOOLD didn't want our imput....

You are right it was a very small turnout, except for the highschool kids.

Hmm maybe you were the guy I was sitting next to in the back row...it's hard to recognize you without your bone.

All I'm saying is that if the City Council has a meeting and their the only ones that show up then they can do pretty much anything they want.

Unfortunately the internet hasn't become sophisticated enough yet that pressing the "delete" key will make them go away. I'm working on that one as fast as I can.

Hey guys, Logsdon is gonna have to spend around $500,000 on studies and repairs to Bob Lenox’s police station built on a Pathway landfill! Paying off the authority corruption with our money wasn’t such a great thing either.

The good old boys have a way of shooting themselves in the foot.

More like shooting the tax payers, and in some place other than the foot. Yet one more legacy of the corrupt pathways group.
