Care of wounded veterans

Major Walter Reed who had an MD degree at 18, but went on to college and got a second one, practiced in several hospitals before deciding he wanted a more secure job, such as the army.
He led a group that discovered the spread of disease by mosquitoes, unknown up to that time. Unfortunately he died with a ruptered appendix at 51.
He is at Arlington National Cemetary.
That is all I'm going to say about what the care of veterans amounts to now.
Other than: they are tempted at reenlistment with what seems like a lot of money to a young fellow, and then if seriously wounded, they are again tempted with a large sum (when they are broke) to go home and take a token pension for the rest of their lives.
"Support our troops!"

Additional comments:
So far I haven't heard one commissioned officer complain about the red tape at Walter Reed. I guess that can be taken as "great" by army types, and suspicious by others.
Also, I don't think congress or anyone else is getting what the complaints of the wounded and their families are.
They aren't alking much about the mold and holes and rats and roaches in a building, but about the indifference of the help. And, lost paperwork and criticism.
Of course there are some who want full disability who don't need it. Always has been, always will be. However, if the army takes in a person with limited brain power, and he gets hurt, they owe him anyway. They took him.

One of my favorite groups! I will make it a point to listen to "Fortunate Son." Smiling

God Bless all of the soldiers and their families.
