Big promise, little truth on Logsdon

A lot of the voters saw Harold Logsdon as a common sense, back to basics person who was a man of his word and had the best interests of the community at heart. Reality has painted a much different picture of the mayor and a lot of us are beginning to notice.

Mayor Logsdon came into office as a die-hard fiscal conservative who was going to put Peachtree City’s house in order. The promised tax cut ended up being a tax increase. The balanced budget ended up being funded from reserve funds.

Over $1 million was wasted on the fruitless, some say shady, Peachtree City Development Authority loan matter. If you go on the web and look over the city council retreat workbook, you’ll find a long list of more free-spending actions on the horizon.

Hosting the big bike race in April will cost us somewhere around $60,000 to $70,000. That’s a lot of money for a bike race in financial trouble and lacking a major sponsor. The mayor wanted to increase the pay for his position - he claims it’s a part-time job - by 109 percent.

The truth of the matter is the mayor, painted as a fiscally conservative financial guru, is really a laissez-faire tax and spend guy with twisted priorities. Cutting back on city employee compensation at the same time you fund a bike race is foolishness down to the bone. The Kohl's and Sam's Club idea is ridiculous.

Many of us hope the city retreat produces a yearning in the hearts of the mayor and councilmen to turn things around and start looking out for the interests of the local taxpayers. We can’t afford to keep going in our current direction.

about the debt being settled. I don't see the issue. He won in a landslide, and the debt is settled. That horse is dead and buried.

I PERSONALLY asked Harold Logsdon at a campaign fund raiser if he was going to use city tax dollars to pay off the development authority loans and he said "no" (first lie). He then told me that he would use the hotel/motel taxes to pay off the idiots' folly with the local bank (second lie).

When he did use our tax dollars to pay off the bank, he told the newspapers that the deal wouldn't result in a tax increase (third lie?). Well, where's the money coming from? The other bloggers are right, we can't even afford another police officer.

Now Logsdon wants to add sports fields with expensive artificial turf ($750,000/each) and expand the Gathering Place at a cost of $650,000. Again, where's the money coming from? We used to have voter referendums on projects like these.

The mayor is not even close to being a fiscal conservative, he's more of a fraud.

Before you asked it. Most any funds the City has are defacto Tax Funds in my opinion (with very few exceptions). They may be called something else, but they are our Cities funds. I'm not trying to address the other issues here.

If cities and towns, such as Peachtree City, are responsible for the debts made by Development Authorities, even when the Bank's paperwork is faulty, and signed by odd people, then just what is the advantage of an "authority?" The City has little if any control over them but it seems must pay debts that they don't pay?
Cronyism is so obvious it is pitiful!
If we don't go by the law, then we are eventually doomed.
Lawyers and judges seem to be of no help to the taxpayers in these cases.
