A scheduling question

A restaurant that has reservations has an electrical problem for an hour causing everyone who had reservations for that hour to have to wait.
Meanwhile, another hours worth of people with reservations show up.
WHO should be seated first and who should wait?
Jet Blue had this problem and they chose to keep loading new people on planes when they knew they had people sleeping on the airport floors.
Does that make sense?
I know that they have procedures about slots and such, but extraordinary times require extraordinary effort.
Are these kind of problems overlooked and just done the way that makes the most money, or loses the least, maybe?
Type of thing that causes Easterns.

You shouldn't attempt to understand scheduling..those of us in the industry don't even know why they're doing what they're doing most of the time. By the way, service comes with a cost so if you don't want to be treated like you're on a bus you have to pay more than $100 to fly somewhere.

Ok, I'll pay $150 to fly somewhere. How come though when it is regulated, no competition, it is $2500?
There is never, no time, no excuse to cram on a plane for 10 hours in sight of the terminal!

for your new car because hey, good service costs more. Don't use coupons because good products cost more.

You have just as much chance of being screwed over by a full fare carrier as a discount carrier. The question is would you be madder at a delay paying $500 or $275?

The airlines have been bailed out by the tax payer and can treat them like dirt! What a racket.

If you plan to fly during bad weather(ie: blizzards, hurricanes, ice storms) don't be surprised when your flight is delayed or cancelled.

We have made some great strides in aviation, but we still have not developed the hurricane or ice proof jet. When your airline delays your flight into bad weather they are actually saving your life. So you can stand there with your Mr. and Mrs. oh-gee-wiz who would have thought our flight would have been canceled pout on your face. Yes bad weather is frustrating, but there is not a thing anyone can do about it.

We do have EDCT times, but we also have ground delays and ground stops, when needed, mostly for bad weather.

The "slot" times you are talking about are used usually for general aviation aircraft flying into an event that is very congested with air traffic. Things like major golf tournaments, car races, and air shows, major sporting events.

If I leave Timbuckto, Nevada flying to Memphis, TN, (just an example) just how am I, personally, to know the weather of the flight plan (which I don't know either)?
That is the airline's business.
What is an EDCT time? Is a slot a place to park and unload?
You must work for an airline or know someone who does. You remind me of the Fayette County employee at the "old complex" years ago, whom I asked nicely, after going to the wrong end of the place to park, why there were no signs in the lot as to where various things were. She said, why, all of us who work here know where everything is. We don't need to spend money on signs! She was serious, I gave up.

It's called the weather channel.

I don't work for an airline, I work for all of them equally.

EDCT = expect departure clearance time, which is an estimated time when space will be available for them in the sky and at their destination airport.
