City committee looking into schools should be the other way around

The PTSO lady, Cele Eifert, is a great example of reactionary politics. Don’t get me wrong, I applaud her stepping up and taking some kind of action, most people won’t act at all. However, why weren’t parents asking for more participation long ago? Most won't be part of the process and they will only surface to scream about the outcomes.

A lot of lame and uninterested parents are going to watch PTC annex the John Wieland site with 500 more homes and do absolutely nothing. After the 1,000 new kids hit the school system and the BOE has to slice and dice the districts again, those lame and uninterested parents will become red hot and scream at the BOE.

Seriously, the idea of a committee from the PTC government to oversee school issues is extremely tainted since the same government is creating the crowding problems. The same can be said for Fayetteville and Tyrone.

There’s no question the BOE can’t be blamed for jacked-up growth by the local governments. If people like Mrs. Eifert want to create some kind of vigilant watch to stop our good thing from going bad, get parents to pay close attention to what the local governments are doing.

The Peachtree City Civic Association and the Tyrone Neighborhood Alliance are great opportunities for parents to assure that local leaders don’t destroy our community and our schools.

I guess if you have not been paying attention then sure this may seem reactionary but it is merely someone trying to get something creative and visionary done outside the normal system that she has been working inside of all along that has ended up failing her and others. Plus, if I understand her proposal correctly, it deals with more educational levels than just the FCBOE. Since you were obviously at the council meeting last night, didn't you listen to what she said? Or maybe you're just doing some reactionary blogging????"

Guess what? Greg Powers (who was recently bounced off the Board of Education for not living in his school district)has been "on the record" as saying "I don't care where the West Village is currently districted - - once this is annexed into PTC, these kids WILL got to Booth & McIntosh". So, for those PTC citizens who think that they are safely districted to their current schools - - wake up and take notice!
This is why Mrs. Eifert is leading this charge. We shouldn't get displaced from our community schools to be beholdin' to a deep-pocketed developer building a road!

This is a wonderful concept. A group of educated, forward thinking people prepared to volunteer their time and efforts to make sure our school system stays great. I may also add that our school system is great because of people like Mrs. Eifert who have over and over again given back to their community by giving their time and expertise selflessly. I wonder if any of the detracters here would work a minimum of four to six hours a day, everyday for no pay just for the betterment of everyone's children and their community. Stand up and be counted.

You mean we should hold our elected officials accountable? Whoa-wee!

Cele is typical of the crowd who blames the victim for the crime.

Listen, did you ever think that the first step to getting people involved in the process was to begin here with a group of concerned citizens? Maybe the people of this entire county have been sold out by a select few who stand to gain much from these bad deals!

Cele is the type of person to volunteer in scouting and PTO. I would like to see you match her hour for hour working to improve things in the community. It's easy to sit back and throw rocks, what are you doing?
