The Great Egress

The handling of this war in Iraq by the administration and its generals reminds me of P.T. Barnum and his side shows. Barnum mademoney by allowing customers into a tent for a dime to show them some great thing, only to announce once they saw something insignificant, that further great things were available just into the next tent for another dime. This went on until people were antsy. This went on for several tents until finally it would be announced that if everyone would file to the left where the large sign was displayed they would be happy. The large sign read: "See The Great Egress, No Charge." Upon going through that last tent flap they found themselves outside near the stock pens.
Another three star general in Iraq has taken a job that he knows is impossible with only 20,000 more troops, not there yet, but he finds it impossible to turn down the reward of a fourth star.
He will immediatly begin to look for the great egress.

Dollar, I am as big a skeptic of the mess-o-potamia as you. But I actually think W’s going to pull this one off. I predict the sur…er, esca….er..AUGMENTATION (thanks for the boob job image, Condi) will kinda sorta work at least for a while. This will give W cover to start a victorious drawdown before he leaves office. In reality he will be leaving his mess to the next prez, as well as the half-trillion $ tab to unborn taxpayers. And in the longer run the mess will only continue and enmity for America will only grow as long as we persist in trying to forcibly reengineer the middle east so that its people can live the way we think is best for them (but most of all best for us.)

BTW, Dick Cheney’s recent public appearances have been creepily amusing. All the hardliners were cheering as he blew off Blitzer on the perfectly legitimate question of his thoughts on his daughter’s decision to have an out-of-wedlock baby with her partner. You have to remember, national imperatives don’t apply to Cheney himself. Like the time he had “other priorities” than going to Nam. I’ll bet a lot of our national guardsmen have other priorities these days, too.

I just hope to god W stays healthy because the only thing worse would be Cheney in the oval office. At this point I would not believe that man if he said the sun rises in the east.
