Led chase from PTC Wal-Mart into rural Coweta A suspect who showed up at the Peachtree City Wal-Mart to make a drug deal with undercover agents led deputies on a chase from the Peachtree City Wal-Mart into rural Coweta County Thursday night. Deputies had to pull back from the pursuit because the traffic on the road made it too dangerous, said Capt. Mike Pruitt of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force. But the suspect bailed his truck at the dead end of a street and neighbors in the area called Coweta County providing the truck’s location, Pruitt said; Hawk 1, the sheriff’s helicopter unit, also assisted in the pursuit. Deputies responded to the area and a tracking dog from the Newnan Police Department picked up the suspect’s scent and found him in a pile of debris near an abandoned house, Pruitt said. In the truck, deputies found a small amount of marijuana and a .380 caliber handgun, but the drugs that were to be provided in the transaction — 30 pills of ecstasy and 1.5 ounces of cocaine — were gone, Pruitt said. He surmised that somewhere along the extensive route the suspect took, he managed to dump the drugs out the window of his vehicle. The suspect was identified as Alston Jerrard Green, 24, of Herring Road, Newnan. He is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors, Pruitt said. A short time before the pursuit, the drug task force made another drug-related arrest on a suspect who sold an undercover agent about a half an ounce of cocaine in the restroom of the Wal-Mart. That suspect, identified as Benjamin Perez Colton, 23, of Newnan was arrested without incident as he walked outside of the store heading to his vehicle, Pruitt said. Colton was charged with selling cocaine, police said. login to post comments |
