I am appalled at what's going on in PTC. Don't like TDK extension, just look at expansion of 74. I am sick at heart. I called the mayor, the city council members, and now the big box plans? We are loosing our nice safe city. We don't need this growth, we are a planned city thats out of control.

The State has owned the right of way for a while. This has been needed for sometime. In fact, it will probably be quieter for the nearby homeowners when they are finished with the landscaped sound wall. It does seem like a few homes are VERY close to the building set backs, that's for sure. I assume the folks who are upset with this addition to 74 were just as upset when 74 was 4 laned all the way north from PTC to Interstate 85.

I've written the council on various things, and I usually get a response from the Mayor. The others, are not so good at responding.

That’s a little naïve don’t you think. You weren't here when 74 was four-laned all the way to I-85.

However, if you want the distorted negative view, you what Mudcat has to say below.

How did you get the umlaut over the vowels in the word naive? You da man!

But, back to the subject. I was here when 74 was 4-laned and it was the best thing that ever happened to Peachtree City. We went from having Hardees and Partners as the top 2 dining choices to what we have now. For example, tonight I dined on leftover Valentino's ossobusco, tasted a little old, but the stupid dog in this house chomped up what I did not finish. Bad breath doggie.

Mostly no. The new group that is starting up to "monitor" development is meeting soon - next week I believe. Many of the few that actually care will be there. It may be good for you to attend and talk it over with a group of concerned citizens.

The things you don't like were put in motion years ago by people and events that are beyond the comprehension of the average citizen or even the average mayor or city councilman. Land use plans, modern zoning ordinances, impact fees, overlay districts, pursuing state grants and extracting community improvements from developers are some of the things that a community can do to stay ahead of this stuff. These are things the staff should do - not the elected officials. Naturally that means having a professional staff.

Peachtree City did a good job of all of that until maybe the last 10 years or so. Now, not so good and no real chance it is about to get better - everybody at the city is in full beaucratic mode. The creative people are gone.

What are the chances that an active group can change this. I called the mayor and several members before the last final board meeting, and the mayor had conveniently stepped out of the office. I voted for him, possibly for the wrong reasons. I sincerely hope that we can stop this madness.

Don't really know carolinagal, but 100-1 against stopping anything around here is an educated guess.

I hope you and everyone knows that the mayor and council have already made up their alleged minds on how to vote and there is really nothing you or anyone else can do.

I think the real value of things like this are that they generate enthusiasm for people to get involved in the next series of controversies - in which they may make a slight difference - 5 or 10 years from now.
