I agree with the general mixed reviews of Valentino's. They were rude. The key point is that they are moving out. If it were true that the TDK Road would save Braelinn they would have stayed. They were very connected to the DIRECTPAC folks and so perhaps they are leaving because they know that the opposite will occur--- PTC gets the glut of traffic and all the consumers go to east Coweta. All the politicians and Newnan Country Clubbers are laughing their fannies off at the stupid Yankees in PTC making them even richer. We get the traffic and they get the land sale profits. It pays to invest in a few local, rube politicians.

If a restaurant can last five plus years until a road and bridge are built, then they don't need to move!
If the 154 Coweta road isn't built as the village develops,PTC will be ruined by traffic until 154 is completed.
State planning is supposed to avoid these kind of mistakes, but there are always too many developers with input, too many local governments with input, and frankly no one except the drivers really care about traffic. Otherwise we wouldn't have had two years of misery at 54/74. Facts are, if you build the road they will come: if you don't build the road they won't.

Years, we're talking years. Not months. No way you could base your decision to stay or go on a road that may (probably) or may not be built years in the future.

I wonder if the rents are out of line in that shopping center. I remember complaining at a meeting w/ the Chief about the liquor server permits and the hardship it placed on the business. I know it's difficult on the catering @ Aberdeen Woods.
Before you get everyone off Onyxx and back on to TDK, both those projects in Coweta may have a bit of an uphill fight. There are just as many anti-growth people on the West side of Line Creek as on the West. There is alot of grumbling about water restrictions, where the water for these developments will come from, sewer, what's going to happen to little ole Sharpsburg and their own traffic concerns. It's no picnic going thru. the intersection of 154 & I-85 and on to US 29. They aren't real happy that Wal-Mart wants to build another Super @ these intersections just 5 mi. from the one on Bullsboro.

Sorry some of you were disappointed with Valentino's. We never encountered a problem or heard of one. Always greeted warmly and with great food and service. To any concerned, they are moving into the former Johnny Carino's building on Hgwy.34,in Newnan, approx. sometime in Feb. It's near Long Horns and Ruby Tuesday's. You all know you cannot please everyone all the time but just at least be nice! Courtesy is contagious.

For several years I made my way to Valentinos. I have to admit that I just loved their food but its the owners that made my stomach turn. On several occasions they had been rude to me or several of my co-workers which finally made us boycott going there. Sure, I know their business is great but it could be so much greater if they just stayed in the kitchen and let their help greet, meet and take care of the customers. Bon Voyage...good riddance and I hope that your obnoxious behavior is more accepted in Newnan.

As long as they bring that cake with them, I'll follow them to Newnan.

I dine there at least once a week, and I have only seen one employee chastised once for almost dropping a tray of food. I see many of the same servers working there week after week, why would they stay if they are being treated badly?

I ate there occasionally, going back to before the Pirate Era and always enjoyed it. I never saw any employee upbraiding but if I had; would not have thought it added to my meal time experience.
I do remember the owner complaining about the servers having to have the alcohol permits and the difficulty of hiring help. I know this is a problem for the banqut providers in town also.

Fayette Speaks is pretty lame. I like PTCGuy, "I am trying to confirm." Hey GIT in your car. I am glad they have created a place where they can play amonst themselves.

Can you recommend a better site where locals can blog? Some of us would like to be able to converse 'amonst' ourselves but deeply fear being labled as 'lame'.

Gone , Kaput, See Ya, They are outa here. The last night was New Years eve.
They are working on a deal to open in Newnan in the bulding that is two doors down from Long Horn. It used to be a franchise Italian of some sort. My fingers are crossed.

Our family stopped going to Valentino's because twice we saw that the staff was belittled right in front of the customers. That is so wrong. If you need to correct an employee, take them aside and speak to them privately. One day my husband and I were at the door waiting to be seated, and although there were plenty of tables available, no one came to help us. We decided to leave, then the owner ran after us and we explained that we had waited long enough. Right there and then he turned around to one of the young adults working there and yelled at him "this is your fault." For us that was the last straw. Whoever you are, if you decide to re-open in PTC or wherever, take into consideration that people should be treated with dignity, and that it is no praise to the customer to have to witness the humiliation of a human being.

If you think public correction is wrong then why are you telling the world here on this media that he is terrible? Send him a letter.
If the employee is worth salvaging, then it is incorrect to berate them in front of others. But if they are a complete screw-up, then so be it. It is hard to own a business.
You sure wouldn't like war, judging in court, football, basketball, or anything else highly competitive. People who want to work hard and do things correctly seldom mind a reminder to learn.
I have 40 years successful business experiience.

For the first time ever, I agree with dollaraday. Everyone duck!

Dollar is accurately pointing out the hypocrisy of gelato's message that she has decided to deliver in public.

gelato is being both over sensitive and hypocritical. It seems she can criticize others in public but will not tolerate others doing the same thing.

No, you really don't agree. (& I believe I am usually on his side of an argument). Think this thru again. You can either stay at home and eat or come over to my house and watch us fight and pay me to cook you dinaa.

know the person? I am certain that my family was not the only one to witness the belittling of an employee at Valentino's. My comment seems to have hit a raw nerve with you. I am happy you have 40 successful years of business experience, but do not agree with your opinion that if the person is a "screw-up" they deserve the public scolding. You refer to war, sports and things which are competitive. A paying establishment is a different ballgame altogether. It is an uncomfortable feeling to have to witness a berating, and I do agree that if they employee really wants to learn, they will not mind the reminder to learn. There is a great difference however between telling someone what they did wrong sternly and privately, and humiliating them and at the same time making the customer feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault that they went out of business, and who knows, their treatment of employees could have played a part in that or not. I guess we might never know...I see you didn't get upset with the comment about the spoiled fish!

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Sun, 01/07/2007 - 9:49am.

You wrote a letter--except it was to the world, in public, not private. You don't get it.
Your problem is that you didn't want to be the cause of the waiter getting berated---but you were! You were more worried about yourself than the waiter.
As to spoiled fish, I have never gotten any there. Some people complain about fish whether it is spoiled or not, if it isn't covered 1 inch deep with fat and bread.
If you don't like a meal, a restaurant will replace it upon request at no cost.

I knew a family whose daughter worked there a couple of years ago. They constantly complained about how ugly and demeaning the owner was to his daughter. They eluded to how they treated the employees and how they would run them down in front of everyone. It was story after story.

Well.... as an employer I hear employees make comments, whine and complain and blame everyone else for their predicaments knowing the whole time they are full of it. In the back of my mind I figured this might have been the case with this man's daughter. Now.....I wonder if his accusations had merit as to how Valentinos treated their people.

Perhaps Gelato speaks with credibility on this subject.

Actually I was surprised when I read Gelato's comments....because I experienced just about the same thing. The last time I was in Valentino's, I watched an older management type berate a high school aged boy in public...including a borderline derogatory ethnic slur.

I decided then and there I didn't want to frequent that place any longer. I can get good food at a takeout place...I choose to DINE for the total experience. And when I see something I think ruins the atmosphere, I don't bring it to the attention of management, I vote by taking my dining dollars elsewhere.

I will not miss Valentinos.

If I had a dime for every time I heard one of my teenagers complain that they were being 'yelled at' or mistreated by their boss I would be retired - again.

Let's be honest, this county is a very difficult place to find good low cost labor. Most of our kids are sheltered to say the least. Many have their first job in food service (at about 16) and are shocked to find they really do have to wash the dishes and they really are expected to hang up the phone and greet the customers.

I am just not all sure that the perception is always the reality. hey, just my two cents.

Submitted by kemets on Tue, 01/09/2007 - 12:57am.

I was a teenager when I started in the "service". I was not 16. I was 15. I worked at a MALL. Waiting on ladies who didn't fit into the "Bobbie Brooks" outfits. I left that "service" to work in a BAR when I turned 21. I found out that people didn't "fit" there either.
I was lucky enough to have people who TRAINED ME CORRECTLY in the bar business. Be polite. Key word here.
Greet with a SMILE. Be happy your customer is THERE. Tell the people what was good and BAD. You are customers. You are the one who comes back.
Yes, I had bad times. Heck, I worked at a HUGE bar in Decatur!
We had 140 people a night. I was the "head" waitress.
THAT was pretty hard.
So, when you worry about "bad fish" ....TELL SOMEBODY!!
Don't just sit there when you see your server being dressed down...
TELL SOMEBODY.
The poor kid probably didn't get good training. Don't take it out on your server. Take it out on who trained them.

Thanks for listening to my drivel. But, it starts at the TOP.
When a place loses it's customers it's not always the server.

Not very appetizing. I can stay at home and fight over the dinner table.

When I was young I went on a sevice job and the owner told me not to tell him anything; he had 40 yrs. exp. When I related this to an older co-worker, he said yes, ONE year's experience 40 years over.
