Teens Party at Empty Homes?

What is the story? 2 different home invasions occured by large groups of teens, looking for a place to party in PTC?

What is the story, and why are we not reading about it? Is it because the owners aren't home to press charges yet?

So much for the "theory" that there are only a few bad kids here.

Lets see......in the last 6 months we have had teens commit one murder, many drug/alcohol parties, breaking and entering, assault, date rape, vandelism, the obligatory stolen golf carts, runaway pulled a gun on his mom, and now borrowing peoples homes when they aren't home for more drug/alcohol parties? Is there any other gratuitous crime we should put up with?
When you get in the office on Tuesday Cal, get the police report we deserve to know the details of this one! Maybe it is just a small town rumour.

Checked with Chief Murray and he says they haven't had any recent teen parties where they broke in to homes, vacant or otherwise. It has happened in the past, but it's been quite a while, he said.

Also, FYI, a home invasion is when assailants break into or sneak into a home and generally assault/kidnap or otherwise accost the occupants of the home; usually in a bid for cash or items that can be fenced.

What you seem to be referring to, using a vacant home for a 'party,' would lead to burglary charges ... even if the house was unlocked, Murray told me.

There are enough homes in PTC where the dad is 'flying' or out of town and mom either doesn't have a clue as to what's going on down in the basement or is working or 'flying' herself that the kids can easily schedule where to go according to who's parents are out of town.

Something I'd said was misconstrued into a rumor, so yes, it was just a rumor. Thanks for clarifying that no home invasions had actually occurred (which is what I also said in response to skyspy's posts).

No I'm not, but I have thought about it.

A party for teens: my, my, we should stop that by all means. They should be forced to have fun at the PTC teen center instead. A center supervised by city employees (gads, no) and with good healthy snacks, games to play, sports, movies, bowling, pool, dancing, swimming, and a study hall.
Where is ours, by the way?
Maybe it would be cheaper to outlaw teen-agers?

I don't mean to be overly pessimistic, but it is hard for me to imagine any sort of sponsored center that would be attractive to teens that are in today's cultural "mainstream." By the latter, I mean the MTV--or post-MTV--generation of teens whose interests (e.g., sex, drugs and crappy "rock") tend to draw them away from anything of a supervised nature. Though I was decidedly PRE-MTV, I speak from experience. (Except for the "crappy" rock. At least we knew good stuff when we heard it. Eye-wink) Our hangout was the Deerfield Beach (Florida) pavillion right on the beach, where we hung out at all late hours and could wander down by the ocean to smoke a few doobies. To suggest that the city might offer us some sort of supervised activity would have been laughable.

For those great kids who have managed to avoid being immersed in the drug and sex culture, there are already church youth groups, sports, etc. to keep them occupied.

You are missing the point, they supposedly broke into 2 different homes to party. If they had been at their parents home, I don't think anyone would have minded.

Says who? No one ever said they broke into anywhere. They were outside, in the street and driveway. And alert neighbors and quick response by our excellent law enforcement put a stop to even that.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad the cops put a stop to it, before anything happened.

You don't seem to ever get anything. Of course no one condones break-ins.
The real point, for your understanding, is that we provide NOTHING for teenagers that they think is fun. Don't give me the church, and volunteer work thing----they don't mind that if they have something they like to look forward to occasionally.
It is simple: the city does not want the responsibility of running such a place, too much hard work and ingenuity is required.

... did everything they were supposed to do and more.

Some of our worthless kids even signed scholarships, served in Iraq, and volunteered at homeless shelters. Go figure.

Get off their back airhead - most of them are GREAT kids.

27,000? where did you get that number from? Anyway I asked the question because of 2 different stories I had heard, and then someone blogged about it on the Fayette Speaks board.

I asked the question because many people in PTC still leave their doors open thinking that it is safe. I think we have the right to be informed of crime in our area. I want to know which neighborhoods were hit.

Sorry to ruffle you feathers little lady, but the kids from the aformentioned crimes are still locked up, so these are new kids looking for attention......if the story is true. I just wanted Cal to either confirm or deny this urban myth.

My wish for all of us is crime free new year.

High School enrollment about 11k, students who have graduated that are still under 21 about three-quarters again of that about 8k, Middle School about another 6k - home school, private school, no school is about 3k - that's 28k plus or minus a thousand - approx. 27,000 - it's just a rough estimate or W.A.G. as we used to say.

No one said there were home invasions by these kids. There were not. They were hanging around in the street and driveway, but they never even attempted to go in the homes.

If you're going to talk about something I said, and used it for another of your many rants, at least get it right.

This may be the most common single call for police everywhere. By the way, you CAN buy a scanner at Radio Shack and you CAN get the police codes online (google: police scanner codes). You will learn the common codes quickly (10-7, 10-27, etc.,). It's cheap entertainment - once you but the radio that is - give it a try.

we have a 100% difference of "opinion" as to the happening. No facts are involved, I don't think.
We waste a lot of time on here sorting out buffons.

Skyspy was commenting on something I'd said on Fayette Speaks. I was responding. Only one of us knows the facts for sure in this case, and I would not put my money on him.

Go to the town hall or police station and look it up for yourself!
Why do you want Cal to do it? He can't get any more information than anyone else. At least, I hope not.
Are there any empty houses in your neighborhood? you watch them for us, will you?

It would appear that less than 1% of the "Kid" population is responsible for 95% of "kid" related crime in our area.

I don't know about the rest of you but I can honestly state my kids aren't angles, but they've never been arrested because they've never broken the law.

Additionally, when they do see one of their peers doing something stupid they either try to get them to stop or leave so as not to be associated with them.

Many a friend, of my children have been lost/dissociated with because they see that what their supposed friends are doing is just wrong and want nothing to do with them.

Good behavior doesn't seem to have any negative effect on the number of friends my kids have. My house seems to always be packed with them on any given weekend.

My kids and their friends know that as long as I'm here they are welcome to come over and eat and play in our basement.

Fully furnished basement with large screen TV (10 years old), DVD, play-station, microwave and refrigerator not withstanding. Best money I ever spent. Hot tub just outside the door is a hit too.

Soft drinks, scary movies, delivered pizza and pop-corn are about the only needed items that the kids themselves supply.

Hanging out at our house is considered a "great time" and a "cheep date".

My kids and their friends have learned that if they play by my rules life ain't half bad.

I'd much rather have them here then somewhere else.

Some of my kids freinds stop by just to say hello knowing that my kids are away at college.

If your kids are gone who on any given week-end comes to "play?"
What is a "cheep" date? (birds and bees)?
If these "kids" supply the food, drinks, movies, pop corn: hadn't they might as well go to Ciniplex?
What is a "not withstanding refrigerator?"
Your "disociated" friends of your children must be the ones doing the 95% crime? Could be the disassociated ones.
Your "not ANGLES" kids aren't angels, I assume?
If 95% of the "kid related" crime is done by 1% of the kids, who does the other 5%? Non-kids, non-kid-related kids, adults, Clayton County? Just foolin.

In a couple of years my kids will be in their teenage years. We'll turn our basement into a teenage rec room complete with TV, music, movies, games, food and sodas. If my kids want to hang out with friends it'll be here or at another home where we can completely trust the supervision of their parents.
