School Lines

I don't have a dog in the fight. My last one leaves McHS this year but let me offer this.
The fiends my kids' had in elem. & mid school are for the most part not around. As they grew older they developed other interest and other relationships. They don't go lock step thru the process.
It is probably not the end of the world.

At the workshop an FCBOE member asked why the current 7th graders at Booth could not return for the eigth year, since Booth would no longer be over-crowed with the B.M. opening. Sam Sweat agreed but, replied that the 8th graders were "needed" to fill the attendance. These include students who have spent 2 years on the Science Olympiad team, band members who have been fund raising for their 8th grade band trip, student council and beta club officers, etc...When asked by a board member why no students from Rising Star were being sent, Mr. Sweat replied that R.S. isn't overcrowded and could, in fact, take on more students. Neither will Booth, in fact there's room for the students from the Amli apartments to be moved in and the returning 8th graders in the fall. Why what applies to R.S., not apply to Booth? To quote Jan Smola, "we are scrambling to fill B.M." There are plenty of R.S. students who live closer or as close to B.M., as Booth students that are being sent there. It appears with Mr. Sweat that if you can't become a "Rising Star" over your competition fairly, you just dismantle it.

Yeah, sure Rising Starr isn't overcrowded--yet they are using SIX trailers even AFTER they just finished constructing an addition to the school. Do you wonder why your tax dollars were spent to construct an addition to that school when the FCBOE was right in the middle of constructing a brand new middle school right up the road? Look a little deeper into Sam Sweat's agenda and you might not like what you see. Trying to make Rising Starr stronger because his kids are there, even though he doesn't live in that district? Trying to make room for the West Village kids at Booth and McIntosh so that John Wieland can market his new homes? This man wants to be your superintendent--beware.
