Seabaugh/Westmoreland

One blogger had asked for proof of developer campaign contributions and wanted to know names. This information is easy to acquire and can be easily manipulated using a database package or sorting software. The list below is just a preliminary first scan on who is funding the Westmoreland and Seabaugh election campaigns. Using other key words, you can draw many more names. I hope this helps.

It's interesting how Rep. Westmoreland can't help with the PSC chemical plant because it's not a congressional issue but he can work on the TDK extension.

Isn't Mr. Lenox, former Mayor, now also into Walker someway? Boy, I think a good investigative reporter is needed. Wonder what the Watergate boys are doing? All the locals are too dependent upon ads, etc.

Former PTC Mayor Bob Lenox was never an employee at Walker Concrete. The Westmoreland campaign input the disclosure information incorrectly. I looked into that matter a couple of years ago.

Doug's list, just as he said, is not a complete record. Although I believe all the TDK landowners/partners/etc. are on the list above minus a few family members.

To answer Tonto707's comment below about Rep. Westmoreland's involvement with TDK, as someone deep in that scene, I can assure you he was heavily involved. Sen. Seabaugh was doing most of the work on the ground, but Westmoreland met with me personally to apply pressue on Peachtree City to go ahead with TDK. Both Seabaugh and Westmoreland always insisted that the "traffic relief" the road would provide was urgently needed. If you look at the dates where they received campaign contributions, you will see they were also the most active on expanding TDK.

There were some interesting developments also with the FAA also that will come out later.

Westmoreland's aid came off no better than the public relations person for the Dallas Cowboys' Terrell Owens. They are going all out to limit the damage from their TDK associations.

As another blogger mentioned, the big retail development at Doc Fisher Road is just the beginning. At one time the Coweta Commissioners denied any type of development like that one. Times have changed, and more are on the way, to the point where the capacity gains made on our roads will be loss in the short term.

And our other reps? We are represented (if I am right) in PTC by State Rep Dan Lakly and State Senator Ronnie Chance. Is that right? Why are they not involved in the TDK discussion at all ? It could be that they are staying out of the discussion because it is a local issue. Dan Lakly has always been one of my favorite locals. I think Dan is not out there pushing this road but rather leaving it up to the local city and county governments. If the council asks him to do something, he does it.

That is a very nice list of contributors to Lynn Westmoreland's campaign. I guess your point is a lot of people in the development business donated to his campaign.

Again, I say So What!

Does anyone remember the dullard he was running against? Would we be better off if that forgettable person won? Of course not. Westmoreland is an excellent represenative of his district - especially the PTC folks who don't get involved in anything and only complain when their ox is being gored. Not that any of them would even understand that. But, Lynn represents them quite well. Do nothing, get nothing.

Westmoreland is on the developer dole, and Robert W. Morgan thinks that the "do-nothingest" most "pro-torture" human in Congress is a wonderful representative.

Doug is right - he can't help with the PSC crisis but he's knee deep in TDK???? If it looks like a dead fish and it smells like a dead fish ...

would you enlighten me and the other bloggers and tell us exactly what Rep Westmoreland has done re extending TDK Blvd?

And while you're at it, explain how not extending TDK will reduce traffic? Are you and the other anti-TDK bloggers assuming that if TDK is not done that citizens won't drive? And would I be wrong in assuming that the same citizens will indeed continue to drive, on the available surface streets, roads, etc? And would that not amount to denser traffic on less available streets?

I doubt that Coweta County will predicate building permits on available streets, roads, etc.

I would personally prefer to see more four lane arteries to I 85, possibly Doc Fisher Road as a starter. But I doubt that not completing the TDK project will reduce traffic any significant amount.

The newspapers said that everyone of the three big Coweta developments cited TDK as a means for justifying the projects. Go back and look it up. Why do you think the developers seeded the campaign accounts? They need that road to make things happen.

What do you mean Coweta won't predicate building permits on available streets, roads, etc? Did you read the Citizen regarding the big retail outlet they just approved at Doc Fisher and 54/34?

If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Coweta to create better access to I-85. It took nearly two decades to widen 54/34. Bullsboro Road had to almost grind to a complete halt before they got that section widened. Besides, Steve Brown was right at the council meeting, the growing number of cars will out-pace the government's ability to widen roads (look at 74-N at 6:30 to 7:30 AM and Tyrone is still building). Fayetteville's downtown is about to fall apart because of the increase in their traffic.

To the people who think candidates receiving contributions from developers is some how "evil," just who(if anyone) do YOU vote for? Even some no-growth candidates get money from developers!

So, tell me who in office is "pure" or a "good leader" according to their campaign contributions? You can start digging here as it lists everyone in office campaign disclosure reporting, including amounts:

Actually on the local level, Dunn got money from one developer who is a golf buddy, Linda Wells took NO money from any developer and from what I understand refuses to meet one on one behind closed doors with any developer that had a rezoning before the Commission.

Those two seem about as clean as you can get.

What is more to the point for me is to look back at who contributed to Seabaugh's first campaign and who contributes now. A very sharp contrast. Westmoreland made his money building single family homes so he has been under that group from the outset. At least he does not pretend.

Now I know who Mitch's employer is. I have heard that Seabaugh obtained this job as a reward for pushing the TDK Extension through. Not that there is any wrong with that. Or is there????

in Peachtree City and Fayette County voted to do the TDK extension 2 or 3 years ago. Blaming Rep Westmoreland is useless and completely misguided.

Tonto,

When did this vote take place?

Submitted by 30YearResident on Thu, 09/28/2006 - 2:33pm.

So, Mr. Seabaugh failed to get the "secret" Eminient Domain bill passed last year but won the TDK deal this year... guess that puts him in good with the developers he represents.

When are we going to get someone in office that represents "US"?

Submitted by tonto707 on Thu, 09/28/2006 - 4:48pm.

a secret eminent domain bill, by anyone. Governor Perdue announced early on that the only bill that he would sign would be "his own" and that's exactly what he did. By the way, it's the right bill and properly places the issue of eminent domain in the state of Georgia, not federal courts.

The black caucus also announced that they planned to float a bill, but it went nowhere. I never saw it, and it doesn't matter anyway now.

I am absolutely amazed and amused at the BS that's traded here, most without an ounce of truth in it.

Submitted by Hardtack on Thu, 09/28/2006 - 5:05pm.

This is a "developers" bill, federal or state. It was originally intended to be used ONLY for the protection of the country by the military, or to build a federal project of immense importance to the public, not to a developer. It again is a difference in republicans and democrats. By the way, do you know what republican means? It means you allow some politician to vote for you any way he wants, no matter what he said to get elected. A democrat votes for the peopleor he is not nominated the next time.

And a very good question too. It won't be Mitch representing US. Although we voted him in.
