East Fayette Co. road questions?

John Munford's picture

In the spirit of interactive journalism (well, sort of) I'm seeking questions from you, dear reader.

I will be attending a transportation forum tomorrow (Tuesday) that covers East Fayette County in addition to Spalding, Clayton and Henry counties. If you have a state highway project you'd like me to find out about, please let me know.

Obviously the big elephant in the room is the future widening of Hwy. 85 from Hwy. 74 in PTC to Hwy. 54 in Fayetteville. What else am I missing?

Thanks in advance for all your ideas!

At least, add some on/off ramps at 92, just to the north on I-85. This situation could easily be addressed now, instead of waiting 5 years for gridlock and frustration to set in.

Having lived near Eagles Landing in Henry County, they waited 10 years too long, and the entire area suffered

Oh wait, you said East Fayette, In my opinion, traffic over there isn't bad at all. Oh yeah, how about a bypass around dreaded Griffin?

Someone posted the date for that to happen. I can’t remember who, maybe Steve Brown, but I seem to remember that it is scheduled to happen around 2020 or 2025, not sure.

I'll try and look it up.

Glad you asked for input:

The intersection at GA 85 & Ellis Road is confusing for traffic going straight across to the Suntrust Bank or Johnny Carino's. The recently widened Ellis Road had a Right Turn Lane added for traffic turning north toward the Pavilion. The Left Turn Lane is for south-bound traffic. If a driver needs to go straight across, the Right Turn Lane has a straight arrow BUT the lane moves toward the left and can cause problems with left-turning traffic. In short, I think the best solution would be for the straight arrow to be part of the left turn lane, not the right turn lane since vehicles must move to the left to go straight across.

Another issue: On Callaway Road guard rails are definitely needed where the road dips and goes over the drainage ditch from the pond to the creek on the opposite side of Callaway Road. Traveling south, this is just before the four-way stop sign at Brierwood Drive and Holt Road.

That's something you should take up with the city of Fayetteville. I used to go that way to the Pavilion all the time when I lived in Clayton County.

The county would be the best to address the Callaway road issue.

This meeting is more on the level of regional traffic and how it will be handled on state routes and the like.
