Pope & Muslums

Somebody help me out here. The Pope quotes an ancient & obscure text about the Prophet. It creates outrage. And then he says it didn't really reflect his belief? What was he thinking? What was the point? Maybe he should have said it in Latin. OR maybe quote R. King..."Can't we all jus git along?"

The pope quoted the 14th century Byzantine's emperor's views of Islam as an example of Muslim-Christian dialogue about Islam, especially in regards to the issue of violence in the name of religion. The emperor was saying that it was evil and inhuman to convert others by the sword. It is not the pope's personal belief that Islam is evil or inhuman, or even that Islam necessarily advocates violence.

Seems to me that the emperor and the Pope said the same thing! The emperor said Islam used the sword to convert; the Pope said the same thing. I wouldn't worry too much about it though, Christianity ( or those saying they represented it) have done the sword thing for 2000 years. (You have to change sword to bomb and tank).
