By DAVE HAMRICK

Have you heard much about what's
going on in Chechnya?

`carpetbagger'

Politically Speaking
The off-year elections are now
history and the 2000 political season has begun. Of
course, politics will not really heat up until next
summer, but as we all know campaigning
for the major offices up for grabs then has already
begun.
- Smells like school

- I must brag that during one
of the pep rallies when I played football in high
school I won Mr. Sexy Legs. What
seemed to be a fun time, turned about to be a
curse, though. I have fought all my life against
being just a sex symbol. Yet, I loved the school
spirit we had back then when it was a simpler
time. There was not the muss and fuss like now
when cheerleaders have the extra hassle of
getting their cell phones through the metal
detectors or with the football team carrying the
extra weight of flak jackets. But can we expect
school spirit to really be the same?

America's veterans
By ALAN G. LANCE, SR.
Guest Editorial
What is it about America's
veterans that brings us together on Veterans Day? Are
we living in the past attempting to capture a
fleeting moment in time that has long since passed?
Certainly not!

Letters to
the Editor
F'ville's mayor-elect: `Thanks'
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank the residents of Fayetteville
for their dedication, enthusiasm, and gratifying
support at the polls Tuesday.
`Most likely, I will run again'
I wish to thank all Peachtree
City citizens who assisted me and voted for me in my
candidacy for City Council Post 2. A special thanks
to my wife, Myrna, for putting up with the campaign
since July, and my son David, campaign chairman.
Cree: Sour grapes or mind-reading
ability?
When I read David Cree's letter
to the editor in the Nov. 5 edition of The Citizen,
my first thought was that it was sour
grapes from a supporter of a political
candidate who finished last in the recent election.
After examining his letter a bit further, I felt
compelled to respond to a few points he raised.
Planning commissioner endorses
Talley for Fayetteville Council
The Nov. 2 Fayetteville city
election resulted in the election of Ken Steele as
our new mayor and a runoff for the position of
Fayetteville City Council Post One. Again we have an
opportunity on Nov. 16 to elect the best possible
candidate to join the fine team we have in our new
mayor and current city council.
Watch out for fox in chicken coop
with Avery as councilman
In the 14 years I have lived in
Fayette County, I have watched, in horror, our lovely
community overtaken by commercial and residential
growth which roads and schools are unable to support.
President surely could find 1% to
cut somewhere in these departments
If the President can't accept a
1 percent cut in government funding to avoid dipping
into Social Security and Medicare funds, he could
look to Department of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) for the extra savings.
About Veterans Day holiday: Oops
Regarding your article about
Fayette County observing Veterans Day on Nov. 11: I
have seen, nor heard, nothing in any media, except
The Citizen, that Monday, Nov. 8, will observed
Veterans Day by anyone, much less the U. S. Federal
Government.
