After stealing a
truck in Peachtree City, a brazen thief led police on a chase from Tyrone
all the way to the Sylvan Road exit on I-85 in Hapeville Wednesday morning.

Web site adds services, to undergo redesign in 2004
Peachtree City’s
new slogan, “Plan to Stay,” can be applied to the community
in various ways, say members of the committee that settled on the phrase
and chose a new “virtual peach” logo to go with it.
Zoning
changes under review
Wal-Mart
and Kroger could one day be pumping gasoline to Peachtree City motorists,
and the city’s planning department has fine-tuned the guidelines
that would apply “just in case” even though no formal requests
have been made by either company to install pumps within the city.

honored by school board

meeting of the Fayette County Board of Education, but for many in the
group none was more special than the send-off given to retiring Huddleston

Run wraps up this weekend
The Peachtree City
Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, in coordination with the Peachtree
City Fire Department, will conduct the final weekend of its annual Santa
Run this weekend. The Saturday run will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2
p.m., with Sunday’s run lasting from noon-4 p.m.

activity upgraded
The Georgia Department
of Human Resources’ Division of Public Health notified the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention this week that the state is upgrading
the level of flu activity from Regional to Widespread.
Collins
still urges caution in Iraq
Rep. Mac Collins
praised the U.S. Armed Forces and the nation’s intelligence community
for their hard work in capturing Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein. But
Collins cautioned that the capture of Saddam, a man he characterized
as a “brutal dictator,” does not mean violence has ended in
that country because it is still a dangerous place.

fires keep disaster teams busy
The Thanksgiving
weekend provided proof that the winter fire season is here. Red Cross
Disaster Action Teams responded to 14 calls for assistance resulting
from house and apartment fires over the extended weekend. Volunteers
around the metro area assisted more than 45 people with emergency needs.
