The Peachtree City Fire Department is collecting new unwrapped toys to support the annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive, which provides gifts for needy children at Christmas.

Residents wishing to donate toys can do so at the Neely Fire Station at 105 Peachtree Parkway north next to Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church or at the Leach Fire Station at 110 Paschal Rd., south of the Peachtree City Post Office.

Toys will be accepted between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Monday, Dec. 22. The next day, a Marine officer will transport the toys to needy families Dec. 24-26.

Some of those toys will go to Fayette families because of the large demand for assistance sought by families at the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services.

Last Christmas, Marines collected and distributed over 12.9 million toys, bringing the joy of Christmas to over 5.7 million children.

Cash donations may also be made to the national campaign by calling the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation at (703) 640-9433.

A host of corporations also pledge their support each year to help make the campaign a success, organizers said.

The foundation’s web site, toysfortots.org, contains the addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the Toys for Tots coordinators in 456 communities across the U.S.
