Post office in Atlanta open 24 hours for mailing holiday packages Local residents wanting to squeeze in after-hours mailing of Christmas packages and cards can do so at the Atlanta Main Post Office at 3900 Crown Rd. The office, which is open 24 hours throughout the year and around the clock, will be open through Christmas Eve until 7 p.m. Postal officials recommend the following tips when packaging gifts to be sent for the holidays: Use a sturdy box to protect contents and cushion the contents. Mark completely through addresses on previously mailed boxes; old addresses and barcodes cause confusion. Remove batteries from toys; they should be wrapped and placed separately. When sending framed pictures, disassemble the frame and wrap the glass separately. If youre flying somewhere for the holidays, packages can be mailed in advance (at the airport, packages must be unwrapped for inspection); this can also lighten the load of your luggage. Packing materials, boxes and padding materials are available at the post office. The postal service also offers shipping options such as paying for postage and printing labels at home via its web site: www.usps.com.
