Football season ends for most teams

Two local teams, Sandy Creek and Landmark Christian School, will be moving on into the postseason, when it starts Nov. 21. For the rest of the local teams, the season is over. Landmark has one more regular season game to play this Friday, while Sandy Creek gets a bye week after running the table in the regular season.

Landmark boys and girls rule Class A cross country meet once again

Landmark Christian School and Our Lady of Mercy were neck in neck in cross country this year. In the final meet of the season, it was Landmark that emerged triumphant in both the boys and girls races at the state meet, both taking home the state title. Our Lady of Mercy’s boys placed second overall while their girls squad placed sixth.

Lady War Eagles capture Class AA/A volleyball championship

For the second time in three years, Landmark Christian School’s Lady War Eagle varsity volleyball team is state champs. The team faced Decatur in the finals, a week after defeating them in the sectionals, and won in three games: 25-17, 25-17 and 25-20.

Lemon stars for Stanford

Former Sandy Creek standout J.R. Lemon will likely be seeing a lot of playing time at Stanford, now that the sophomore has been given the chance to demonstrate to the California folks just what he can do.

Former Fayette athletes active on college gridiron

Gavin Bourgeois and Reuben Houston, two former high school football standouts from Peachtree City, now have one thing in common: Georgia Tech football.

Clayton State Track Club schedules November meetings

Coming off its first sponsored race — the McElroy Mile Oct. 25 — the Clayton State Track Club will be meeting twice in the month of November to, among other things, discuss the race, as well as future events.
