Governor Sonny Perdue last week joined United States Department of Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta to accept three grants for Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport totaling more than $45 million for security and noise mitigation enhancements.

Listening session set next week

Fulton County Commission Vice Chairman William "Bill" Edwards will host his third 2003 quarterly "Listening Session" August 28 to hear public comments about county services in District 7, which he represents.

SCAT recognizes Georgia All-Stars

The Southern Crescent Aquatic Team has announced its Georgia All-Stars for the 2002-2003 combined long course/short season. These swimmers have been recognized by Georgia Swimming for achieving outstanding times in one or more event in the past year. Awards are based on USA Swimming motivational time standards.

PTC Classic now taking applications

The Peachtree City Running Club is accepting applications for the 22nd running of the Peachtree City Classic road race, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18. The event actually consists of three separate races run on three separate courses that morning.

CCSU downs Lightning in exhibition

The Clayton College & State University men's soccer team opened its exhibition season with 7-1 victory Sunday over the Lightning Soccer Club U-18 squad at Laker Field.

Smith wins two golds at State Games of America

Haley Smith, a 9-year-old Peachtree City Flash track athlete from Tyrone, represented Georgia in the 2003 State Games of America in Connecticut. She brought home two gold medals, competing against 9- and 10-year-olds in the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run, taking an early lead and finishing strong in both races.
