New director for general services Fulton County Manager Thomas C. Andrews has selected Willie A. Hopkins Jr. to be the county's General Services Department director. Hopkins, a logistician with 17 years of experience, assumed his duties last Wednesday. The General Services Department, with over 300 employees, is responsible for land acquisition and leasing; buildings, grounds, and vehicle maintenance; building operations; mail and print services; and managing construction of buildings. Most recently, Hopkins was general manager of a distribution center for Excel, Inc., located in Westerville, Ohio. From 1996 to 2001, he worked for Ashland Distribution Company as the North American operations manager, Dublin, Ohio; general manager for distribution operations,St. Louis,Missouri; and general manager for warehouse operations,Little Rock,Arkansas. After earning a degree in business administration in 1986 from Alcorn State University in Lorman,Mississippi, he spent the next 10 years as an Army officer. While in the military,Hopkins was a quartermaster officer and had several tours of duty as a logistics manager.
