Camping is easy in Georgia's state parks

Summer marks the beginning of camping season, when stores begin displaying the latest tent styles and families being pulling out hiking boots and fishing gear. Spending a weekend or even a week at a state park is an inexpensive way to spend quality time with your children, teaching them to love nature and forget television. Also, children often appreciate the small things that go unnoticed by adults, such as the colors in a butterfly wing, a chorus of frogs or the babble of a mountain stream.

Year-round school starts back Monday

College Park Elementary School and Parklane Elementary School will return to classes on Monday for the first day of their 2003-04 school year. Both schools are year-round schools.

New Deans at CCSU

Three new deans are officially beginning their tenure at Clayton College and State University today. In addition, Clayton State also starts the new fiscal year welcoming a new Associate Provost, Dr. James Mackin.

Water ski at Callawy

Through August 15, 2003, Callaway's ski instructors will teach anyone age three and older the basics of skiing. Instructors ski behind the student, lift them up and balance them, and then move to the student's side for continued instruction. It's fun for the students and it's amazing how fast they learn.

Our Town auditions set

The director of NCTC's record-breaking "To Kill A Mockingbird" will be holding auditions for Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" at Newnan Community Theatre at 7:30 on July 14 and 15. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.The director asks that those auditioning be prompt and know your conflicts and commitments through the end of September.Rehearsals will generally be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. More rehearsals may be expected on the week of opening.

Thursday Thunder: Fayette County Drivers

At the midpoint of the 2003 Thursday Thunder series, which came after the July 3 races, intense point battles and competition continue, and the Fayette County drivers are at the center of the action.

Community sports briefs

The Wendell Coffee Golf Center in Tyrone is hosting the 2003 Summer Break Junior Golf Camps. Sessions will be held every week from June 2 through Aug. 14, and all camps run Monday through Thursday.From 8:30 to 11:30 is instruction, followed by lunch, then from 12:30 to 2:30 the juniors will play 9 holes of golf on the Par 3 course.
