Rivals meet on gridiron tonight

It seems like every week from now until the end of the football season will feature some big games for our local teams.

Starr's Mill places second in volleyball tournament

The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers volleyball team was in top form this past weekend in Conyers, bringing home the second place trophy in the Conyers Classic Invitational.

Softball teams prepare for area tournament

The area softball tournament for Region 4-AAAAA is scheduled to start on Monday. As tuneups for the playoffs, the local teams have been facing each other. On Tuesday of this week McIntosh faced Mundy's Mill, while Fayette County and Starr's Mill battled.

Tryouts for roller hockey teams soon

The 2002 GHRA State Champion McIntosh Chief Inline Hockey Club will be holding tryouts for two high school teams Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Kedron Multipurpose Rink from 8-10 p.m. The tryouts are open to all players in high school (9th to 12th grade) in Fayette and Coweta Counties. If a player is not currently registered through PHA, they will be required to show a current USA membership card or they must purchase "weekend warrior" insurance onsite prior to the tryouts. These players must also pay a fee of $5 and must have a parent or guardian present to fill out the registration form.

Deer season starts next week

Deer season for modern firearms hunters opens statewide Saturday, Oct. 19. In the Northern Zone, the season runs through Jan. 1, 2003. In the Southern Zone, the season runs through Jan. 12, 2003. Last year, more than 279,000 firearms hunters harvested 371,500 deer. Approximately 96 percent of sportsmen and women use a modern firearm when pursuing deer, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).
