Fayette, Fairburn spar over annexation

For more than two hours Wednesday, the Fayette County Commission picked the brains of the counterparts in Fairburn over a controversial annexation request. Fairburn's city leaders acted as agents for the Bedford School, which wants to annex nearly nine acres of its property in unincorporated Fayette County on Milam Road into Fairburn.

Union City, homeowners differ over water bill

Representatives from the Old Virginia Homeowner's Association were a no-show at the Union City Council meeting, flouting the council's most recent attempt to reach an equitable agreement with the group regarding a large past-due water bill. The bill, currently $10,187.55, resulted from water line breaks at Old Virginia Condominiums.

Teacher assistant takes county honors

Kimberly Price, a teacher assistant at Woodland Charter Elementary School, has been selected as 2002-2003 Fulton County School/Support Professional of the Year.

The Fulton County School System announced that Dr. Susan Messer, a choral and general music teacher at Ridgeview Middle School, has been selected as 2002-03 Fulton County Teacher of the Year.

Piedmont Hospital, a member of VHA Inc.'s Women's Heart Advantage initiative, shares in the program's latest honor awarded by Foundation for Accountability with its 2002 Ellwood Award.

McIntosh rolls to state title

The McIntosh High School roller hockey team recently won the Division A state championship. The Chiefs defeated South Forsyth in round one, 7-0 and Walton, 5-2 in the second round. McIntosh met Brookwood in the final and won 3-2.

Running club's summer track series starts up again on Tuesday

The Peachtree City Running Club will conduct their annual summer track series. The series will take pace at the Peachtree City track adjacent to Peachtree City Elementary School on Wisdom Road every tuesday evening starting June 4. Registration for events begins at 6 p.m. and the first race starts at 6:30 p.m. The series is open to all runners of all ages and abilities. There are no field events.
