Enron
fiasco: What to do, what to do ...
By DAVE HAMRICK
Editor-at-large
Watched a little
of the Arthur Andersen auditing firm testimony on the Enron fiasco the
other day.
Our
water is safe, but spill shows reporting system needs improvement

From the outset,
let me go on record as one who drinks Fayette County water confidently.
I say that despite, or perhaps because, of some research I did for a
story about residents' claims that there seems to be a disproportionate
concentration of leukemia and other cancers in the county.
Ice
skating is just for women

Another quarter
decade has passed and it's time for me to tell you yet again why ice
skating is not a sport.
Homosexuality
fixed at birth? No science exists to support that belief
In 1987, a homosexual
magazine called Guide published an article that laid out a detailed
marketing plan for selling the normalization of homosexuality through
the mass media. The article, "The Overhauling of Straight America,"
was eventually expanded into a full-length book called "After the
Ball: How America will conquer its fear and loathing of gays in the
'90s."
LETTERS TO THE
EDITOR
Rec
league adult antics threaten refs and kids
I have one question.
When a person goes to work, do they expect to work in an environment
that is not hostile? I believe the answer is yes.
Fayette
high school swim teams get short end of stick
Picture if you will,
all of Fayette County's High School football teams, basketball teams
and wrestling teams only be able to practice from 6:15 a.m. to 7:30
a.m. three days a week. Do you believe that they would be competitive?
Controversy
in PTC: Will the real Mayor Steve Brown please stand up?
First, let me say
that I will be driving the car with the bumper sticker saying, "Don't
blame me, I didn't vote for Steve Brown." With that said, I must
say that I am sorry to see that the reasons I didn't vote for Brown
are coming to fruition.
ead" also sent
an invalid message and I would like to address each.
Memo
to lawyers: What part of 'secret' do you not get?
Thank you for keeping
us taxpayers up to date on these secret meetings. Oh, wait a moment,
memo to Lindsey and Davenport: SECRET, SECRET, SECRET, SECRET ... SECRET!
Now, what part of "secret" do you not understand? I only wish
you two were elected so I could do all in my power to encourage others
to unelect you.
Give
King his due, but discover all the facts
Most responses to
Letters to the Editor don't require follow-up, but the vitriolic, personal
attacks on me by Messrs. Lewis and Scott deserve answering.
Dr.
King not only talked the dream; he walked it
To classify Victoria
Wanzer's comments as ignorant and racist would serve to add dignity
to her remarks, in that ignorance and racism are correctable conditions
if one actively chooses to eradicate these afflictions by becoming informed.
Additionally, to categorize her remarks as an attempt to defame Dr.
King's character would only serve to add a minuscule amount of validity
to her statements, because contrary to her beliefs, Dr. King did not
seek fame in his noble and unselfish works for the peaceful existence
of humankind.
AT&T
should tell about cable problems on cable
Thank you for printing
my letter on this subject in the Feb. 6 edition. As a result of my actions
in e-mailing the city of Peachtree City, Reg Griffin of AT&T, and
Fayette County, there was a response by AT&T that resulted in repair
of our subdivision's reception quality that allowed us all to enjoy
the Superbowl game.
Ted
Turner has a few causes beyond buffalos
Thanks should go
to Susan Bertram whose letter to the editor published Jan. 23 alerted
Peachtree City residents to the impending opening of Ted's Montana Grill.
In addition to the rip-off of the taxpayers for various federal agricultural
subsidies, Turner is up to his neck in other hypocritical activities.
Bills
create special class: victims vs. rest of us
A few days ago President
Bush signed into law "Victims of Terrorism Tax Relief Act"
(HR 2884). He has given the survivors of Sept. 11, Oklahoma and the
military a special status in this country. He, by not vetoing that bill,
is creating two distinct classes of people: Those that were personally
affected by those acts and the rest of us.
