Bush booed in Sweden! By BILLY MURPHY Jeesh. I never get into writing much on politics, but sometimes I just get dragged in, like some dad of a middle school girl, being tugged every six months to an 'Nsync concert. The agenda-infested Atlanta Constitution headlined in incredibly large print in Friday's paper, "Bush Booed in Sweden." It reminded me of a headline on one of their papers framed at their main offices in Atlanta, "Japs Bomb Pearl Harbor." The intent of their message dripped off the sides of their paper like syrup off a fat man's pancakes. They might as well have written "Moron Bush Booed by Genius Sweden." Counting any European nation as the gauge for morality, perseverance or "smarts" is hardly a good strategy. First, let me state that I have blood ties to Europe that few Americans have. My mother is full German. My father met her after World War II and brought her back to the United States as his bride. My mother grew up in Hitler's Dusseldorf. Ask her who she voted for, or which party she votes. Yet, even at the risk of upsetting her, I must say Europe is no bed of roses, nor is it even a flower garden of deep thinking. I'm not speaking here about any European person specifically, because I have never met any that haven't been really nice. And yes, I have met many; I go to Disneyworld as much as the next guy. I do get chaffed that their chubby men wear Speedos to our American beaches, but usually the fact that their wives sunbathe in the nude more than offsets this complaint. Liberals have a long history of finding any "expert" to back up their particular agenda. Citing Sweden as experts on the economics of our industrialized policies is like turning to Alabama for education reform. It's like making Alaska chairman on The Committee for Air Conditioner Reform, (And I'm fairly sure there must be one; it is Washington after all). These days it would seem the Democrats would be putting all their resources into their successes, like bribing away weak republicans. Bush Booed in Sweden. I would have liked to have heard the sound of a whole country booing. Just how loud would that be? Could you hear it from Portugal? That was the intent of the headline, right? I mean, they never would have reported such a strong statement if it was only a few hundred protesters at a political rally, right? And what is a political rally in Europe anyway? The word "gathering" in European is translated ,"Man with blunt end of ax knocking spout off keg of ale." Anyway. My contention is not with Europe. They are just being played by the Democrat phrase-turners, wheel-spinners and sound-biters. The kid not invited to the party will always try to ruin the party. Liberals lost the round on this environmental issue, so they are doing what they gotta do. And again, the liberals have a long history of promoting an unattainable ideal before they will compromise on some attainable one. Better to throw out the baby with the wash than to agree it just needs new water. Oops, that's their stance on abortion. I am saddened and embarrassed that our press has now done so much to drive a wedge between the people of the United States and the people of Europe (like they have done with the genders, races, etc.). Europe is not some nation seeking to wage war with Americans. The majority of their population is just like the majority of our population; apathetic and indifferent. Frost (Robert, not Jack) said, "Big oceans make good neighbors," but we live in a much smaller world now. So we need to learn to love our neighbors and not let all this bad press color our feelings. So the next time you see a guy wearing dress socks with his sandals, give him a hug, you will be doing well to promote international love for one another. Or, you could have just hugged a guy from New York.
