Teams battle region foes and look for momentum as last week begins

Tuesday evening saw our local basketball teams facing formidable region opponents: Sandy Creek faced Forest Park, Starr's Mill played against Woodward Academy and McIntosh met their county rival, Fayette County High School. There are approximately four games left in the season and all teams want to travel to their region tournaments with momentum.

Panthers win, host Panther Duals this weekend

The Starr's Mill Panthers wrestling team was scheduled to meet Banneker and Mt. Zion, Jonesboro on Tuesday evening, but inclement weather kept Banneker at home. Starr's Mill took on Mt. Zion and won 51-20. The Panthers got wins from Gary James, Kevin Trickey, Scott Molleson, Brian Kyser, Danny Davidson, Ariston Bowers, Christopher Coleman, Drew Cofty, Matt Fuhrmann, and Clint Barbour.

Four cheers for local cheering squads

All four Fayette County high schools have fielded either a regional champion cheerleading squad or a runner-up, and all four schools are going to the state championship in Columbus on Saturday.
