Tuesday evening saw our local basketball teams facing formidable region opponents: Sandy Creek faced Forest Park, Starr's Mill played against Woodward Academy and McIntosh met their county rival, Fayette County High School. There are approximately four games left in the season and all teams want to travel to their region tournaments with momentum.

The Sandy Creek girls are showing a lot of toughness. They outlasted Forest park ion overtime, 38-37. Ashley Lott led the team with 14 points and 17 rebounds, while Maya Hughes scored 11 points and pulled in nine rebounds. The Lady Patriots also faced a tough North Clayton team on Monday night, winning 41-39, That very same North Clayton team manhandled Sandy Creek on Friday night, winning 34-19. The Lady Patriots will be playing with some confidence this weekend when they host Riverdale on Friday and then McIntosh on Saturday.

McIntosh split with Fayette County on Tuesday night, much like their first meeting of the season. The Lady Chiefs and Lady Tigers battled for the entire game, but McIntosh came out victorious with a 32-28 win. The defense of both teams was spectacular, giving each team opportunities to put the other team away. Erin Fisher led McIntosh in scoring with eight points. Fayette County's Anne Hancock also led her team with eight points. McIntosh will travel to Griffin on Friday and then to Sandy Creek on Saturday.

The boys game was quite similar to their first game of the season as well. McIntosh stayed close to Fayette County, but eventually the Tigers talent took over and secured the win. Stephen Cox led the Chiefs with 11 points, while Fayette County's William Moore led his team with 25 points. The Tigers will host Newnan on Friday night.

Starr's Mill faced Woodward Academy on Tuesday night and both the boys and the girls lost. Both teams played well, the boys game was separated by two points with three minutes to go in the game, but Woodward pushed away from the Panthers at the end and won. The Lady Panthers lost to Lady War Eagles, 61-52. Amy Holloway led the team in scoring with 16 points. The Starr's Mill boy squad's two leading scorers, Matt Houck and Donny Lampen, were a little off their games, scoring seven points each. Dane Davenport led the team with 14 points, as the Panthers lost 69-58. Starr's Mill will host North Clayton on Friday night and will travel to Salem on Saturday evening.
