The Starr's Mill high school swim team recently competed in its first meet of the season, and easily swam away with first place. The meet was held at the Johnson Park pool in Conyers, with competition coming from three other metro area teams.

The girls took first place in seven of 11 events, with a total number of 167 points. Heritage was a distant second with 98 points, Rockdale 47, and Carrollton 42. The boys topped it off with 131 points to Heritage's 122. Carrollton placed third with 75 points and Rockdale came in fourth place with 28 points. The boys took first place in four of 11 events.

Other good news coming out of this meet is that several swimmers have already qualified for the state swim meet to be held in February. Brittany Stevens qualified for the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02:06. The girls 200 medley relay team of Krista Ulrich, Laurel Surratt, Samantha Hudson, and Stevens qualified with a time of 2:08.57. The 200 free relay team also qualified with a time of 1:55.00. The swimmers in that event are Jessica Lovelace, Stevens, Hudson, and Libby Hardison. Kenny Jubb is the other individual qualifier placing in the 100 free with a time of 51.78.

The Starr's Mill swim team is coached by J.B. Campbell, and is looking forward to a winning season.
