PTC to talk about big new Coweta development

The Peachtree City Council is slated to discuss the potential impact of a proposed 3,100-home city on its western border at Thursday night’s council meeting.

The McIntosh community would be located adjacent to Line Creek and immediately next to the proposed TDK Boulevard Extension, making it likely that those people would use Ga. Highway 74 through Peachtree City to reach Interstate 85 in Fairburn.

The design process of the TDK Extension is nearly complete, and it will include a bridge to span Line Creek to link TDK with Coweta County’s McIntosh Trail.

In addition to the proposed 3,100 homes, McIntosh would feature 946,000 square feet of commercial space, although none of it will be of the “big box” variety, save for one grocery store, according to developer Tom Reese.

It will cost an estimated $30,000 to finish the design work for the Peachtree City side of the extension. Once the design is complete, the county can proceed with construction, which could begin at the earliest in October 2007 because land to relocate several golf holes at nearby Planterra Ridge Golf Club won’t be ready to play on until then, or perhaps sometime later.

The golf course land was necessary to route the road around a runway safety area that was purchased by the Falcon Field airport with a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

In other business, council is expected to consider measures to protect buffers along Lake Kedron and Lake Peachtree, including:

• The removal of all privately-built boat docks on Lake Kedron since the only access to the lake is supposed to be on the county operated boat docks;

• Correction of buffer and setback violations by allowing the area to grow back naturally without the use of fertilizer or other chemicals; and

• Notification of homeowners with a specific time frame for compliance and/or corrective action.

Council will also consider adopting the proposed $3.1 million budget for the Peachtree City Tourism Association, which operates the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater and the Peachtree City Tennis Center in addition to numerous tourism events in the city.

The budget anticipates a $102,000 year-end surplus for the amphitheater but a $77,000 shortfall for the tennis center.

Good, let's get rid of the boat docks, the beaches, the canoe storage and the Mexican fire pots. The lake belongs to the people of the county - not the rich people that bought $100,000 lots and were told with a wink and a nod by the real estate agents that they could do whatever they want. A direct quote from one agent is "The county doesn't patrol this area - you can do whatever you want. Just don't start a fire" That agent is now managing other people.

Can't wait to see the blowback of this and the fingering of certain real estate "professionals"

Why is no one demanding the Marshalls do their job and start writing citations? Why is no one blowing a gasket that the Marshalls have failed do to their job so far and allowed things to get as bad as they are around the lake? PTC can say whatever they want... it is the MARSHALLS who are responsible for the county land around Lake Kedron (that would be the buffers that so many have encroached on). I care much less about illegal fishing Lake Horton (where the Marshalls like to hang out) than I do about the buffers being destroyed.

If it’s not in writing, it didn’t happen.

But true or not, they will talk about it until the cows come home.
