Things to do after you vote on December 6

In a continuing effort to get out the vote (and just be flat ANNOYING), I have put together this little "voters" guide to help those of you who are considering coming out to choose the new mayor of Peachtree City on December 6. Some people don't vote for the simple reason they can't get to the polls because of work, family, etc. So, I am suggesting that everyone TAKE OFF DECEMBER 6. If you have a vacation day, use it. If you can call in sick and get away with it, do it. Isn't $30 million per year and the good name of Peachtree City worth ONE DAY of your time?

And hey, after you vote, here are some of the wonderful things you can do right near your polling place.

#11 SHAKERAG EAST
GLENLOCH RECREATION CENTER
601 Stevens Entry, PTC

Tennis anyone? You can bring your racket to the polls, and after you give the incumbent the smackdown, hit a few tennis balls. There's also Huddleston Pond nearby, a nice, quiet area. Walk a mile around the paths or just enjoy the ducks.

#12 SHAKERAG WEST
PEACHTREE CITY LIBRARY
201 Willow Bend Rd, PTC

Have you SEEN the new library? It's quite impressive. Get a cup of cappucino (coffee in the library?). Hop on the wi-fi connection while warming your hands near the fireplace (the wi-fi is free) or surf the Net on one of their MANY PCs...maybe you can put a blog onto thecitizen.com! Enjoy the wonderful open spaces, browse their collection of music CDs, DVD movies or books on tape or CD for your commute...it's all FREE. Well, you paid for it in taxes, but at least you don't pay $4.00 per DVD, and you get to keep them longer!

#16 MCINTOSH
HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH
101 E. Walt Banks Rd, PTC

Throw up a prayer to Saint Jude Thaddeus, patron saint of lost causes, for the incumbent Smiling. The church is asthetically beautiful, with its marble floors, wooden altars and stained glass. And they support the community with their food pantry and their excellent Hispanic ministries. Say hi to the kids in preschool.

#17 OAK GROVE
OAK GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
101 Crosstown Rd, PTC

Go back to school? Well, at least there's a nice park nearby (Braelinn Recreation Complex) to shoot some hoops or play a quick game of tennis. The little ones can play at the playgound - have FUN with your family while performing your civic duty!

#18 KEDRON
PEACHTREE CITY CHRISTIAN CHURCH
500 Kedron Dr, PTC

The church is under construction - see what all the fuss is about. The Kedron ponds are just up the road - one of the areas best kept secrets - they're SO peaceful.

#19 ABERDEEN
CHRIST OUR SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH
101 Peachtree Pkwy North, PTC

Well, maybe you can ask Pastor Weber how the sale is going... Smiling

#20 WINDGATE
PEACHTREE CITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
400 Windgate Rd, PTC

The "old school" Methodist church, home to the annual July 4th Chicken BBQ. Huddleston Pond is close to his polling place, too.

#21 FLAT CREEK
THE GATHERING PLACE
203 McIntosh Trl, PTC

Do you love bridge? Pinochle? Crazy Eights? See how the "golden years" are enjoyed at the senior center...I hear it might be getting bigger. Stop by the Flat Creek Nature Center too - next to the Amphitheater. If you haven't walked the boardwalk before (it's on the path to the Amphitheater venue), we've got some outstanding nature here in this town, and the Southern Conservation Trust keeps it all in check...there are some really neat views - Peachtree City before the highway construction Smiling

#22 BRAELINN
BRAELINN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
975 Robinson Rd, PTC

Another school? Running low on ideas....ah, there's always the historic Holly Grove AME Church down the road....and don't forget to get in 9 holes at Braelinn Golf Course.

#31 FIELDING RIDGE
KEDRON FIELD HOUSE & AQUATIC CENTER
202 Kedron Dr. PTC

Take a swim under the bubble! Smash into the boards at the hockey rink! Play some gnip-gnop (ping pong to the rest of us)! Another great City facility, often used and sometimes underappreciated. The Rec Department always has a good class going...

#32 WILLOWBEND
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF PTC
208 Willowbend Rd, PTC

I thought we were supposed to separate church and state? No worries. Across the street, visit Monument Park, an honor to a family member of one of Peachtree City's great citizens. And Pebblepocket Park is right across the way - have a picnic on the lawn behind the pool!

#33 CAMP CREEK **Note Polling Place Change below
PEACHTREE CITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
225 Robinson Rd, PTC

The "new school" Methodist church is quite a sight. If you need to see a doctor, you've got plenty of choices right across the street. Take a trip down Stagecoach Road - one of PTC's (or maybe the only) DIRT ROADS! Yes, we're still a small town.

So, no excuses on December 6! There's plenty to do. Whatever you do to spend your day, GO VOTE. You owe this great town this - and, if you're like me, you'll support a NEW mayor for Peachtree City.

So, I Don't Know is now giving us ideas for what to do after we vote again on December 6. I guess the concession speech did not come out quick enough. So if we must, we must. Vote December 6, keep a senior happy.

Then once you have voted, and taken advantage of all the fine options listed above, don't forget this one simple freedom of life...at least we can get a beer. And my guess is we will probably need it.

If the current mayor can not do some simple math and realize that his time has come and gone, then we will have to show him at the polls. But, if the current mayor were truly a mayor of the people, as he has so pronounced, he would realize that he could serve the people better by saving them the cost of the runoff. Now, I am not an expert, and there may be some wierd law that says this stuff has to happen, but couldn't it all be over with and the City moving forward with just two simple words, heck I even make it three "I repsectfully conceed."

Don't count on it happening. So just be thankful that we do not live in a municipality that has the outdated blue laws and will allow us all the opportunity to go get a beer. Of course all you 18-20's please VOTE and then disregard the after party.

You can also crash the Direct PAC party - and what a party it will be - at an undisclosed location. heard they are really full of themselves and are planning something special as soon as Brown loses.
