Whoever said crime doesn’t pay hit the nail on the head. The Aug. 24 drug bust in Tyrone that led to the attempt to run down officers and injuries to motorists on Ga. Highway 74 will be an event that the four men involved will never forget, especially Jonathan Fenn. Fenn, 36, of Atlanta, was shot while trying to run over officers conducting the buy-bust near the Publix grocery store, according to Fayette Sheriff’s spokesperson Belinda McCastle. That action combined with the injuries to motorists landed Fenn in Fayette County Jail after his hospital stay with charges that include three counts of aggravated assault, one count of reckless driving, criminal attempt to traffick in marijuana, theft by receiving, fleeing and attempting to elude police and false identification of vehicle information number, McCastle said. Fenn’s bond was set at $220,000 for each of the counts except the trafficking charge, for which there is no bond allowed. Three other men were charged in the buy-bust incident. Melvin Dudley, 34, of Fairburn, was charged with criminal attempt to traffick in marijuana, obstruction, theft by receiving and false identification of vehicle number, McCastle said. Chattanooga resident Roderick Williams, age 32, was charged with criminal attempt to traffick in marijuana, theft by receiving, misdemeanor marijuana possession and false identification of vehicle number and 49 year-old Jacksonville, Fla. resident Napoleon Dowdell was charged with criminal attempt to traffick marijuana, theft by receiving and false identification of vehicle information number. Dudley, Williams and Dowdell are in Fayette County Jail. The names and conditions of the motorists hit by Fenn while fleeing from officers is unknown at this time, McCastle said. login to post comments |
