GOOD CITIZENS

"Great Day in the Morning!" and other posters, we hear you.

As a staff member of TheCitizen Online, I can tell you with authority that we would love to see our community salute the huge majority of people and events here that are excellent.

That is part of what we strive for in publishing our weekly Names and Faces section.

[Family tradition T-shirt story published today (Aug. 30, 2006) is a great example.]

So, may I suggest that we use this blog as a starting place for good news, a place to recognize and reward persons and efforts which deserve praise, a "thank you," or encouragement.

What a welcome addition to this site this will be.

If you're talking about making it fluffy and sweet like Fayette Woman, no, thank you.

Look at any cutting-edge magazine, Time, Newsweek, National Review, you name it, and they deal with reality, good and bad. If you need to artifically inject yourself with 100% optimism, let me suggest Prozac.

God bless the First Amendment and God bless those people that seek to do the public good, even if they have to be critical. Does anyone else find it interesting that you almost never see a blog posting on one of the positive stories in the newspaper? It's probably because they aren't really issues/subjects suitable for debate. They're just happy-go-lucky pieces. Perhaps the newspaper should take a different focus.

I'm not saying the Citizen is negative by any means. In fact, the stories today on the developments are informative, and appear quite level in their thinking.

No way to sugarcoat the crime stories. Just print the facts....

Glad to see that the idea was worthy and taken seriously. I had hesitated to suggest, but seems as though others would like to hear and report good news. I trust that all will realize and respect this blogging area and as another said, keep the bad and ugly somewhere else. Please let's have this be good news, and not a bunch of argument and discussion, just positive and happy, take the yeow-yeowing somewhere else.

An example, was it not heartwarming to see those young men from Georgia winning the little league championship. The joy in their faces was priceless and made for a great and happy story.

Just so the sight doesn't become one of those false, positive- attitude things that are always a bunch of hooey! Also, wait til the whole result is in before bragging on someone just doing their job. That cheapens people who really are getting something good actually finished, when they didn't have to do so. For instance: pay the cops more, don't just brag on them, they know when they have earned our respect, individually. People who are adequately paid don't need bragged on all of the time. Another thing: our soldiers in Iraq and other places of danger, know that when some of us say, "enough" of Mr. Bush's policies, we aren't talking about them. Also take better care of them when they return than we now do--they will know we care then.
