By: The Citizen
A blogger on The Citizen Web site caught Mayor Harold Logsdon in the midst of another considerable lie. Logsdon told the AJC, on Aug. 17, the recent rash of annexation bids were not the city government’s fault. He told the reporter the property owners were initiating the requests and the city wasn’t going annexation crazy. However, a blogger found a Citizen article from March 7 stating Logsdon said he mailed out nine letters of invitation from the city to property owners asking if they would like to have their land annexed. Direct PAC cofounder Rex Green’s employer, Group VI, is also asking the city to annex property subsequent to their clearing the site and voiding Peachtree City’s tree ordinances. Green was also a contributor to Logsdon’s mayoral campaign. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I’m not buying the idea that we all have to sit around and watch the unadulterated greed of the developers as they gouge and rake in huge profits at the expense of our future. Mayor Logsdon did everything is his power to make the huge TDK development possible but he’s not willing to fight for us. None of the large development proposals in PTC or Coweta even come close to matching the existing land plans. That’s not why we moved here,Harold. Please give up your job as mayor and let someone else stop the road and try to repair the damage. My wife and I got a huge laugh from the headline about the TDK development from hell. Every time the wicked money grubbing elitists beat Steve Brown over the head, he is always later proven to be right. He said there would be land development problems with TDK. We’re now looking at some really gigantic problems. The council needs to find a way to stop the road expansion immediately. ---------------------------------------------------------------- What the heck? This is World War III – the development war to end all good things as we know it – and it looks like our elected officials have abandoned their flank and jumped to the other side of the fence. Carting the kids to soccer practice is going to take a whole lot longer in the future. The huge shopping center on TDK will draw crime just like at the Pavilion. ---------------------------------------------------------------- OK, the latest bombshell. A 3,100-home development plus a 900,000-square-foot retail space just across the county line in Coweta. The mayor feigns ignorance as to the impact. Oh, please. Is it a coincidence that they are expanding Ga. Highway 74 to six lanes from Crosstown? Is anyone supposed to believe until just this past week our leadership was unaware of this plan? Shades of the CSX baloney. Peachtree City elected officials, understand the decline of the quality of life you are supporting here in our city, and withhold support of the TDK Extension (the feeder road for this mega mess)until Coweta can provide a comprehensive plan to deal with this horrible burden they are placing on your citizens. This is one of those moments which define an official and how history will remember them. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody just needs to shut up about the extra-large developments that are in the works. Who cares what Steve Brown thought about TDK? Steve Brown slowed residential growth down considerably and the voters said that wasn’t the way they wanted to go. Harold Logsdon never hid his desire of promoting development during his campaign, so why is everyone complaining now? Everything has a negative impact. If you eat too much ice cream, it will kill you, but no one is trying to stop the sale of ice cream. Builders have a right to build the largest developments possible to maximize their investment, and if you can’t live with the extra traffic, then you can leave, and take Steve Brown with you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Stop the TDK Extension now! ---------------------------------------------------------------- If you look at the sum total of the new mega-developments being proposed, it’s not a pinch; it’s more of a death grip. For heavy commuting areas like Tyrone, Peachtree City, Senoia and east Coweta County, road capacity is the difference between the good life and the stressed life. We can’t afford clogged roads. What is the government’s role in protecting not just the “good” life but also our economic vitality? The answer is clear. Most of these mega-developments require local government approval of annexations or rezonings. Yes, your future commute to work is in the hands of our local elected officials. Contact them at council@peachtree-city.org and lschlumper@coweta.ga.us and tell them to just say no. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It’s not just coincidence that movement to expand PTC’s sewer outside the city limits, rezoning requests for apartments, huge annexations and some of the most dense single-family housing plans in our history have occurred with Harold Logsdon at the helm. The voters were warned. Not enough us took those warnings seriously. ---------------------------------------------------------------- By now, the trend is obvious. Harold Logsdon turned a significant annexation plan on the city’s Westside into an enormous high density development free-for-all. He was the main proponent of running the city’s sewer into Coweta County to inflate their growth. He ensured the TDK road expansion to facilitate thousands of new homes and 1 million square feet of retail and office space that will shut down the Braelinn Shopping Center. He personally brokered the deal for the high-dollar purchase of the Pathway property even though the CEO was a large contributor to his political campaign. He has pulled every string possible to benefit local developer Group VI by favoring their annexation bid even though they purposefully altered the property so they won’t have to abide by city building standards, and he favored giving them special exceptions to local ordinances. We got a change in leadership to be certain — developers rule. ---------------------------------------------------------------- All you folks criticizing Harold Logsdon need to go back and review the election results from last year. He won in a landslide over six candidates. It was not close. Four of the candidates, based on the number of votes they received, were not even seriously in the race. When it got down to Logsdon versus Brown, it was an absolute slaughter. You folks criticizing Harold do remember that, don’t you? ---------------------------------------------------------------- I don’t know why everyone is so worried about the possibility of another 6,000 cars coming into Peachtree City from Coweta County. I figure the powers that be will simply begin another three-year Hwy. 74 widening process. Of course they will no doubt also have to widen the not-yet-begun TDK Extension. Ah, you can almost hear the sounds of the money changing hands. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Surprise! Now you know why Harold Logsdon worked so hard to get the property for the TDK extension. He’s the developer’s puppet, and we’re paying for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- We need someone to step up to run against Judi-ann Rutherford and Stuart Kourajian the next time around, and provide some leadership. The mayor is getting a lot of the blame, but he’s not doing it alone. Our most senior city council members are voting us into oblivion with their pro-growth leanings. We need to get some people in office who understand how to protect our quality of life. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The small group of voters, now known as the ignorant minority, who marched to the polls demanding change, is getting exactly what they asked for: Massive change. Between Peachtree City and Coweta County, the local governments are adding enough new homes to create an entirely new city. Hello, urban Atlanta, and goodbye, small-town charm. ---------------------------------------------------------------- How is it possible that the city manager can still have his job after an arrest?? Anyone else would have been fired right away. Way to go, Logsdon. ---------------------------------------------------------------- We were all aware of all the drama taking place at McIntosh High School last year with all the suicides. Now more than ever teens are “cutting” themselves and fighting, which is leading our teens to get kicked out of school. But did you know that the [middle school] records don’t transfer, so you can have a violent teen in middle school, but there is no record to show for it in high school? So, basically if they get into a fight in high school, they are starting off fresh. This brings me to my concerns. The policy is to not hit back if you are in a fight; that is what the school requests. The student that hits ends up getting suspended, and five days later things are back to normal. We are talking about an individual who didn’t mind fighting in front of authorities, so when the other party doesn’t hit back and they still keep punching — there is something not right with that child. Well, what happens next is our biggest fear: the child returns and doesn’t feel satisfied because they were suspended and they didn’t get to really finish the fight. This is now going to make round two for the school year; meanwhile, the same student who was the victim will have to be the victim again, still not punching back, because if they do, they will get suspended and kicked off any sport that they are in. All the hard work over the summer ends because of round two. How much can a teen take? Is this the real reason for some of the suicides? Is this why the boy from Whitewater wanted to do a “Columbine”? Is the answer to the problems to make it a zero tolerance for fighting? Are we letting our teens get away with too much? Has anyone brought to the forefront about all this violence in one affluent school which my taxes are paying for? I love our schools and what they have to offer, but someone is not reporting on all this, and I wonder are we trying to cover up this big problem to save the neighborhood, or are we allowing our kids to get away with yet another incident at school? Please let me know what your comments are on all of this. When suicide hits our good students and “cutting” hits our athletes, what more signs do we need? ---------------------------------------------------------------- The fact is 90 percent of last year’s illegal students removed from Fayette County schools were black kids from Clayton County. The fact is the cars are lining up again this year at our schools’ drop-off and pick-up lines. I would like the Board of Education to inform the citizens every time they remove an illegal student this year as to their race and what county they are from. I don’t think that’s too much to ask from the people I voted for and put into their position at the BOE. Let’s make a huge difference this year for the sake of our Fayette County students and quit backing down because of fear of the “Card” that gets played way too many times. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Where are all the pictures of McIntosh High School football practice? I see pictures of Starr’s Mill (of course!), Whitewater, Fayette County, and Sandy Creek, but nothing for McIntosh. Why? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Attention, students of SMHS: The time has come to unite. Mrs. Toney took away our break and something has to be done. We have to unite and save our school. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Has anyone noticed that elementary school fund-raising is getting so out of control that they are putting the needs of the school ahead of the hearts of the children? Peeples Elementary recently sent home their gift wrap fund-raising packet. It stated that if the children sold at least 15 items, they could attend a BMX bike show at the school. All other children could not attend this show. They would be left out. I feel, as a parent, that I am being forced to buy because my child wants to see this show. I saw nowhere on the instructions where a cash donation would be accepted to allow my child to attend. I must buy the gift wrap items. What happened to the classroom policy that “No matter whether you choose to donate or not, your child’s name will be included on the gift and card”? I guess that amount of equality and kindness doesn’t apply when the school wants to raise their money. I hope that next year Peeples Elementary will think about who will be watching from their classroom windows and wondering why they were not included to watch such a fun show. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Changing the school calendar to start later, or to end earlier, or to shorten the Thanksgiving break or whatever is an exercise in futility. The calendar doesn’t mean anything to the self-centered parents in Fayette County anyhow. They will still take their kids out of school at any time regardless of what the calendar says. What’s even more amazing is that the administration allows this to occur. ---------------------------------------------------------------- We are being afforded a wonderful new service here in Peachtree City that I wanted to make sure everyone knew about. It is an after hours e-clinic near KMart. It’s Saturday night at 8 p.m. and I was just seen by a doctor, and given a prescription to treat my strep throat. The whole time I was there, I was just thinking back to the day when my oldest was always needing to see a doctor for ear infections, and of course when we needed the doctor was in the middle of the night. What a wonderful type of clinic to have so close to home. We are very lucky. I had a terrific experience, and highly recommend it. Its quite a forward thinking clinic, and very professional. ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the last three weeks I have witnessed three accidents on Ga. Highway 54: Two at the hospital entrance and one at the u-turn lane west of the 1967 building. In two of the accidents I was close enough to observe that the people coming out of the hospital were senior citizens while the drivers on Hwy. 54 were young drivers in their 20s. Our county leaders should realize the potential of danger with people — some having left the doctor’s office with bad news — not paying full attention to their driving and entering a highway with people going 60 mph. A traffic light at the hospital entrance is long overdue. ---------------------------------------------------------------- After this Comair crash in Lexington, I have been sick at my stomach over the 49 lives that were lost over human error. I have been in the air traffic control field for 25 years and have been to many different facilities with a vast list of experiences. As I deal everyday with egos in my job, I thank God that we have these egos that allow us to be at the top of our profession when dealing with thousands of lives. I know it is hard to understand if you are not in a profession that requires you to know that you are the best. My best friend is a Delta captain and has an enormous ego. They can be overbearing, rude, outspoken, etc., but there is nobody in this world I would want more commanding the aircraft that my family and I are on. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the person who so brilliantly advises, “Just mow your lawn,” thank you so much. Why didn’t I think of that? I will now go quit my job and devote my full-time attention to the landscaping of my yard. The nerve of my employer expecting me to work long hours at my job when there are important things to do like mowing my grass. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Bring on the “pretty police.” They perform an extremely worthwhile service to our city, and those who care are very appreciative of our property values that they protect. There are two choices: Obey the code requirements or move out of Peachtree City. As to the complaint about the city public works department, perhaps if those who trash the cart paths and roadways would stop doing it, the city would have more time to get everything done. In addition, how about all who walk, run, drive golf carts, etc., on the paths take the time to pick some of the trash up? Now, that’s a novel idea. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I am sorry that Ambassador Young has felt it necessary to resign. He spoke the truth ... of yesterday. Many store owners of today have had the opportunity to respond and declare that today in some communities, Mr. Young’s comment no longer applies. I remember when I was working in a school which focused on human and civil rights in Los Angeles. The Jewish parents became upset with a project that pointed out the difference in prices and quality of food in Beverly Hills and Watts. The small store owners in Watts were predominantly Jewish, and the prices were higher and the quality of food was poorer in Watts than in Beverly Hills. This was the truth of the 80s! Only after open discussion and eventual boycott of stores that did not supply acceptable goods at reasonable prices did the practice begin to change. It is too bad that political correctness trumps the truth. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Once again, I am amazed at the number of people in Fayette County that are so anti-law enforcement. One such person commented that law enforcement and school officials “ambushed this student for maximum hardship and penalty,” referring to the recent incident at Whitewater High School. Would this person as well as the local attorney (obviously a defense attorney) have thought this student only made a mistake rather than committing a crime if Whitewater High School would have become another Columbine? In addition, no crime had been committed until the day this student was arrested on school premises with the large arsenal. This student is 17 years old so, yes, he goes to “big” jail. Thank you, Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, for a job well done. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It is time for The Citizen to go daily. If you don’t, another paper will soon do it for you. There is going to be too much ad revenue here within a very few years to be ignored by others. It is not an overnight project, but the first one in who can hold steady for a few start-up years will get the prize. My goodness, Cal, this place will be 200,000 population in 10 years. ---------------------------------------------------------------- If the “Kill the Infidel” editorial did not convince you, then I suggest you read, “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam.” I bought it at Books-A-Million in The Avenue. Islam is at war with the whole world. Their doctrine is to impose Muslim law on all non-Muslim states. Before Islam became rich with oil money, this was a largely Middle Eastern issue. Now they can project their power and will across the planet. This does not mean all or most Muslims are bad. This does not mean we need to be suspicious of Muslim people in our community. But, it does mean that we need to understand Islam, what its goals are, and act accordingly. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the parents of a McIntosh student driving a dark blue Mitsubishi Eclipse (license plate ***6064) to school. The entire time I was behind your darling, they drove reckless and ran every stop sign between Golfview and the school, and I’m not talking about not counting to three. I’m talking barely slowing down as they ran it. Your precious offspring should have the keys taken away for a very long time. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It is simply unbelievable at what people in power can say anymore, and do exactly the opposite, and then no one cares in his own party or clique. Our governor is stating on TV that he stopped illegal immigration at the Georgia border and quit allowing them on welfare. Actually he fought for the farmers to have what labor they have always had, mostly illegals. Fascinating. Three weeks ago our top general said we were on the verge of civil war in Iraq, speaking to Congress. Today, three weeks later, he reversed himself. Why? Suddenly, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is only about the two capitol cities, not the country. Looks like we plan to abscond as soon as 130,000 of our troops can quell Baghdad, and the terrorists have gone to Mosul, etc. The administration says we will never have a draft of soldiers again. They already know they have destroyed the present system (extending time in service, hiring 42-year-olds, buying reenlisters off like bought soldiers, etc.) and are hard at preparing a scenario for the November elections. Lord knows how bad it would have been if we had elected a Democrat. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Raise your hand if you think immigrants should be required to give up their citizenship in their countries of birth in order to become American citizens. ---------------------------------------------------------------- There is a language barrier on some blue collar job sites — for English-speaking employees ---------------------------------------------------------------- Are Americans racist to worry about “becoming strangers in our own land”? Horse feathers! It’s a good bet that 10 million people of any race flocking rather rapidly to any other place will stoke similar fears, even if everybody belongs to the same race. ---------------------------------------------------------------- How come I can attempt to understand a customer’s broken, heavily-accented English, but when I attempt my broken, heavily-accented Spanish, I just get blank stares? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone, who isn’t blinded by greed or political ambition, believe that 20 people living in a single-family dwelling, being paid in cash, and sending most of their earnings home to Mexico, really give more to our economic and social system than they take out in services? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Getting a little tired of people who are here illegally demanding rights in this country? Well, don’t just wring your hands; call our representatives and speak freely. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Self-proclaimed “Progressives” claim that “the Right wages war on workers.” Does anyone really think that it helps our workers to import third-world wage competition? The Senate’s “comprehensive” bill rewards illegal immigration. That is the worst kind of “warfare” being waged on blue collar workers ---------------------------------------------------------------- Congrats to Peachtree City’s own Dave Gary for winning the 2006 Tennis Center Manager of the Year award. We certainly could use some positive PR for our city right now. Way to go! login to post comments |
