Fairburn City Council Aug. 14 continued its goal of establishing more industrial development with approval of the conceptual site plan for a 500,000 square-foot warehouse on Creekwood Road near Oakley Industrial Boulevard.

Known as the Southcreek V warehouse, the 55-acre tract is adjacent to the S.C. Johnson distribution center. though currently envisioned as a 496,000 square-foot distribution center, the facility has the ability to expand significantly in the future in accordance with the demands of the market, said City Administrator Jim Williams.

Located on Creekwood and running parallel to I-85, the property was annexed in March and zoned M-i Industrial.

The project is one of several distribution centers in and around Fairburn that are open or in the planning stages. The city council agreed in recent years to focus economic development on commercial and industrial projects. Residential development, they said, should be generally limited to more upscale neighborhoods.

Just exactly what interstate ramp is new warehouse business going to clog up?

If the tractor-trailer traffic for this facility is added to the already congested traffic on the Hyw. 74 exit/entrance we’re in trouble.

The trucks are already blocking the left lane of 74 while waiting to turn left into Oakley Ind.. Blvd.

It’s time someone put a stop to this “Over-development” on the only interstate exchange we have.

Oakley Ind. needs it’s own on and off ramp from I-85.

When the citizens of South Fulton County (including Fairburn and Palmetto), Coweta County and Peachtree City want someone to blame for our future traffic nightmare, go look in the mirror!

A majority of the voters put these elected official in office, and these super-sized developments can't happen if those officials don't annex or rezone.

Sure the developers will rape and pillage every time if given the chance; it's just too bad our elected officials are joining them.
